I have a Sony BDP-S360 And I also have this problem.
I tried to watch it and i got a "unable to play" message. I went to sony's website and made a firmware update disc, installed it(it works, i checked the vers. number and it's up to date) and still the disc won't play. Other discs play but not this one. I went to the lionsgate website and couldn't find anything that would help and google isn't turning up anything but people asking the same question and no answers. Do anybody else have any ideas on what to do besides get a new movie/player/ps3? |

A while back, Lord of war just stopped playing (and never started up anymore). I then repurchased it and it replacement is fine. Now, King of NY and Total Recall won't play either (and they are both Lionsgate films). Not to mention Reservior dogs won't play on my PS3 (but runs on my Sony BDP-S570 but that BD player is another story). Do films from this studio have a expiration date or what (thankfully, my other Lionsgate films run fine, for now)?

I had a similar problem with a Sharp BD player. A couple of movies just stopped working. I ended up just resetting the player to the last update. After that all affected movies worked with no problems. I hope this will help you. Good luck.

Those are old Blu-rays. There have been reports of early Fox and Disney discs going bad, even though they once played fine. It happens sporadically, but it looks like the Blu-ray manufacturers had not perfected the production process in those early releases.

Well, I'm going to go through all my Disney and Fox BD's just to make sure they all play fine and post my results. I'm just going to replace King of NY and Total Recall (which is what I exactly did with Lord of War). I won't replace Reservior dogs since it does work (even though it doesn't play on my PS3 but did work on my BDP-S570 which I'm junking and I'm planning to replace it with the OPPO BDP-93 but that's another story).

Well, I checked all of my Disney (Miramax as well since they are part of Buena Vista which is part of Disney), 20th century Fox (and MGM since they are part of FOX) bu-ray movies and they all loaded up with out a problem.

![]() I have CD's that are over 25 years old and still play as good as the day I bought them. ![]() I would hate for a Criterion or OOP title to go bad! ![]() |

I would be VERY surprised if the physical media actually "went bad". More likely it is a firmware issue. If you are using the most current firmware for your player I would contact the disc manufacturer and then the player manufacturer to discern where the problem lies.

Sorry to bump this thread. But I just received a copy of Saw IV in the mail from Amazon today and it will not play. Just noticed the OP brought this up as well, but he seemed to have no problems from Amazon. Anyways, is this a problem with my Blu-ray player or should I get a new copy from Amazon?

I saw someone mention in another thread that he was having issues with Lionsgate blu-rays also (mostly the older ones). In that thread, they said it might be an issue with the discs. The other thread is here:

My copy of King of NY and Total Recall no longer work on either my PS3 or the Sony BDP-S570 (I'm going to buy both again) and reservoir dogs won't play on the PS3 but will run on the BDP-S570 (go figure). The same thing happened to my copy of Lord of War as well (I purchased a replacement and it works fine to this day). All of them are Lionsgate films well. Coincidence? doubt it. Pineapple Express worked originally when I purchased it but stopped working (we then found out that it was a BD-Live issue with the film which has since been fixed but none of those Lionsgate films have BD-Live though). BTW, it makes no sense to do something drastic as replacing the laser on the PS3 just because it doesn't play one film. I'm also replacing the BDP-S570 (traded it in to BB) with a OPPO BDP-93.
