Okay, cool.

That's a great story. I mean, what are the chances?!

And I just love that song.

It's a shame this movie is so under the radar as it's pretty damn great. It has one of the most satisfying endings I've seen in some time. Jessie Buckley, who stars as the lead, was revelatory here. Not only because of her strong acting performance, but she has an incredible voice too. I have little doubt that she's going to be a huge star one day. I already see she's gotten some roles in bigger movies and TV shows after this, and more to come too. Julie Walters, who plays the mom in the film, also gave a great supporting performance.

There was a part of me that wondered whether this beautiful, young actress really was singing her parts, as it just seemed almost too good to be true that she has all of this going for her. Sure enough, she's performed the song 'Glasgow' at many venues, including on Colbert's show. I nearly teared up watching her perform it here; her voice is just so tender at times, and powerful at others. Jessie Buckley, that's a name to look out for.

(I would recommend watching the film first before playing the video below)

Buckley's been on a serious upwards trajectory since the War and Peace mini series in 2016, she made a splash in the first season of Taboo (which has seen its 2nd season be severely delayed while Hardy and Knight concentrate on other things), starred in Beast (which is a solid pyschological drama, well worth checking out), then a trio of mini-series in The Last Post, The Woman in White, and Chernobyl (only seen the latter, but that's a fantastic mini-series and she's very good in a supporting role) and then Wild Rose. She's also the best thing about Judy (Zellweger was a terrible Garland imo). Looking forward to Misbehaviour in March (UK release), where she looks to have a large role among a pretty impressive ensemble cast and the film looks fun. Not seen Doolittle yet, given the terrible reviews, but she's playing Queen Victoria in that as well. Will probably catch it over the weekend.

I remember watching a teenage Jessie Buckley twelve years ago when she auditioned for the role of 'Nancy' on Andrew Lloyd Webber's BBC reality series I'd Do Anything.

Lord Andy was openly pissed that she came in second place.

Yeah I remember there being a bit of a fuss about that in the papers at the time, but I wasn't watching the show so didn't really recognise her as the girl from then when she started cropping up on UK TV. Just goes to show that talent shines through in the end.
