Jason and the Argonauts was indeed a box-set exclusive, and for licensing reasons it had to be exactly the same disc as the HMV Premium version, Sony menus and all.

So even if it had been contractually possible to release it separately, it would be a pointless exercise as you'd end up with something largely identical to the HMV edition, including a literally identical disc in terms of the machine-readable side.

For similar reasons, Arrow didn't release Annie Hall and Manhattan separately, and it would have been similarly pointless as the discs included in their Woody Allen box sets were the same MGM discs that were already available.

Hello all

I'm a new member here, but have been reading the forum for some time, and have collected the majority of Indicator releases to date.

I have a hunch what this film may be - I may be completely wrong but the figure strongly reminds me of Ian Hendry. Then I remembered there's a very obscure British thriller which he starred in - "ASSASSIN" back in 1973.

I've never seen it, but the description of the plot on imdb would fit with the clue picture.

Also when you look the film up on the BBFC website, it looks as though the original UK distributor was Columbia.

If this is the film, it could be one to look forward to - Ian Hendry is one of my favourite actors of that era. A great talent that sadly left us too soon.

Cheers,

John

This guess has come up elsewhere, because the chap does indeed look like Ian Hendry as you say. Trouble is, verifying it is almost impossible because the film is obscure even by Indicator's standards of mining British cinema. That said, I found this article from August 2019, which suggests a release may actually be forthcoming (intriguingly, it says possibly as part of a box set, though that is surely unlikely; the Pemimi Organization/Peter Crane set suggested by the author seems a real long shot, however interesting it may sound):

A boxset of Assassin alongside Hunted and Moments would make sense, they were the only three films that Pemini made weren't they?

It's massively obscure though, as you say even by PH/Ind standards. Wouldn't say no though!

I suspect we're way off base though.

The fact Assassin is so obscure makes me question whether it could be the clue or not, but it does seem an ideal Indicator release either way. I would definitely pick it up and, if it's with Sony/Columbia, it seems possible.

Kino licensed it from CBS in the US. I could go for a release with subs

Judging by the BBFC entry it looks like it might be Paramount here

Thanks, also seen reference to cbs (as you previously mentioned) and 20th Century Fox. I know there's a Kino blu-ray but that's bare bones and the PQ appears to be nothing special.

Viacom own both, so most likely yes. Pointless having two separate distribution arms.

ViacomCBS is a very new entity, indeed CBS Films have been distributed by Lionsgate until now so Paramount has just been the distributor for CBS series
