I hope they finally release the 3D extended edition in the lead up to Avatar 2. It's probably more likely to get a UHD release in the current climate, but perhaps they'll do a combo pack as with Alita.

Sounds like a no-brainer to re-release AVATAR with added scenes. Hopefully Cameron will push the 3D through as well.

So Avatar 2 is said to take place largely underwater for the new sea humanoid creatures from what I heard. If that's true, I hope they go for very strong IMax 3D as seen in Under the Sea 3D. If it's just strong 3D, that's good too, but it should at least match the impressive conversion of Aquaman 3D, even though much of this will be filmed in 3D, or natively rendered in 3D in the CGI worlds.

Cameron suggested he felt the 3D in Avatar 1 could've been pushed even further, so by that, I hope he means stronger 3D layering.

Deep Sea 3D trailer has some strong 3D layering as well, so that will hopefully be the goal for the 3D in Avatar 2.

This should've been on track for December 2020, but now it's December 2021. How badly can a film be pushed by an entire year? I guess that's the only window they're willing to release it in, and if it's not on time, delay it till the next Christmas... The 3D better be amazing and strong most of the time, as in Imax strong 3D.

It’s a marketing decision. Disney want to release Avatar and Star Wars films alternately from Dec 2021...

I've been waiting a very long time for avatar 2, I have to say I'm a little disappointed to hear it's concentrated under water, I've always been less than impressed with under water 3D.

To be fair James Cameron said it would be set underwater all the way back when he announced there would be sequels in 2009, lol

Now that Disney owns Fox and therefore the upcoming Avatar films, I wonder if Jar Jar Binks and the Gungans will make an appearance, any chance to interfere and cross promote franchises haha.

I don't understand the complaint. Underwater sequences are full of potential for great 3D if done right.

Stating not to like something and demanding something else instead, is whatís know as a complaint.

Disagreeing that being "a little disappointed to hear it's concentrated under water" equates to a demand or complaint.

Underwater, consider Under the Sea and Amazing Ocean 3D films, both with strong 3D throughout. Amazing stuff. And Aquaman 3D for a great conversion, and Sammy Turtle Tales 1 and 2 for strong CGI computer animation 3D underwater. Underwater has tons of potential, provided the view is clear as it was in Aquaman, and not foggy, as in a real ocean, many times.

I find many underwater 3D themes can render strong 3D; thinking of the famous native 3D "codfish" scene in "Under the Sea" and IMO, the recent Aquaman 3D title.

I think it might be because the natural underwater floating ability in a realistic spacial-environment is filmed entirely inside the boundary of the 3D frame. It can allow infinite opportunities for the "pop-out" moments that can trigger natural sensual gratification, created by both the Left and Right-eye-views being visible. The 3D frame is not spoiled from the one-eye-view border limitation..

Let’s not forget Creature From The Black Lagoon. THE underwater 3D film.

Obviously I was being to General, I did very much enjoy Aquaman and Turtles Tale is the best 3D I have seen to date on Blu ray at home. Iíve also seen a few that have had misty foggy dark scenes as you mention and thatís what I dislike.
