One thing regarding the UI is it aint slow at all with internal SSD. Navigation is lightning quick.
Try using it when playing Modern Warfare MP. It takes litterally 30+secs to do anything lol. I cant even pull up the capture menu.

It's more like there's not enough RAM for it to do anything.

A lot of gaming PCs even use slow mass storage to dump games to when not in rotation and just transfer to the faster SSD when it's going to be played.

USB C SSD won't be anywhere near as fast as the internal drive. There's a massive difference between SSD sequential read/write speeds, Sony probably won't want to make the experience worse by letting us play games off slow external drives.

Just keep it simple and use usb storage for archiving games and the internal drive for games in play.
Personally i see the idea of dumping games to external storage vs re-installing from disk not being much different in time taken but it would be a nice feature. Personally i just want to see us finally be able to save pictures, game recordings, edited videos etc. be allowed to directly store on external storage from the get go. Especially since they're trying to target streaming as a feature too. I'm more than happy to do a 1080p/60fps capture over say 4K but if they somehow manage up to 4k/60fps from launch that'll be great too.

This is why i was wondering if a flash based OS solution might not be a better and feasible option. A dedicated storage for the OS with space for patches etc. only for system software as well as a redundancy built in like current systems in case anything happened to the flash storage as well as an anti piracy measure having a final software check.

A question about BC. I know this isn't known but maybe you all have some educated guesses on this.

For games like Mortal Kombat Armageddon MK vs DC and others that never got a PC release, would it be smart to buy a physical copy if I can find a good cheap one or will the PS3 era games most likely be downloadable?

I have Gamepass for a few months as well, but none of those games appear there either. I know not much info is known about this, but I'll appreciate any feedback.

I would wait for official announcements before buying any previous gen game. Alls we know is Sony has been trying to create an emulator for PS3 games through various patents. In the PC space, only 1 or 2 have had some success but still have issues. The question is if BC is there, will Sony try & monetize it? If so, games will trickle in as each one has to be re-Licenced & approved much like MSs BC approach. If we we get hardware emulation, & it is confirmed by Sony to be in PS5, Id then say go for it.

Are you using SSD in your PS4?

I was referencing general UI. Though Ive never encountered slow down while in-game & using UI features at the same time with my console. Maybe once in awhile I get the Please Wait while opening apps or closing them on apps such as YouTube or PS Store.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems reasonable with the little information we have, I'll just wait for Sony to announce how they will implement BC.

No problem.

There is salty rumours from a Twitter Account that suggests all PS games Physical will work & the release date is December 3rd. Though the person has been right in the past, these posts are old.

Dec 3rd release date....nah....

I have a sneaky suspicion one of them is going to try and get out of the gate a month or so before we think.

I feel like if Sony did BC like PS3s release SKUs, then they don't need to re-licence games at all. They just let gamers play them off disk. True BC, however MS have been getting over praised because they individually release titles with remastered qualities. If Sony just make the PS5 BC with all prior gens via hardware then gamers just need to own the disks and there's probably no reason for Sony to seek a re-licence. It didn't seem to affect PS3 but they nixed it for "saving" reasons imo.

No way they release as late as December imo. I'd say November at the latest and likely late October at the earliest and targeting a global launch if possible.

I cant see them releasing later then Black Friday, could I see Sony or MS releasing on Black Friday yes but that would be intolerably cruel.

I'd say its honestly naive for anybody to think for one second that even if both Sony & MS released consoles around then that they'd end up on sale. No matter how you slice it, consoles usually end up sold out at launch and take time to re-stock. That's at RRP.

So i think it's just important for Sony to try have them out sometime in November leading up to Christmas. Black Friday is just a useless holiday invention here in the UK & whilst there are better deals in the US, it also has been used to clear crap that hasn't sold in prior years with very few and limited big ticket products discounted to grab headlines.

I'm not talking about it being on sale im talking about the money made from people buying Christmas gifts, you have systems and accessories and games its a gold mine for everyone

I wonder if the rumour Sony have 9tf vs MS 12tf is true, and that Sony gave up on some raw power to take advantage of the much faster Samsung storage?

Surely if that's the case then we would see some pretty big differences in the way games are made on both platforms? How will 3rd parties utilise the advantages of Sonys storage vs the raw power of the Series X?

SATA3 is massively slower than NVMe so there's no way the Xbox will be able to compete with what will be a major selling point for the PS5 and one that can actually introduce a revolution in game design that hasn't been possible before.

I really wish Sony would hurry up and clear everything up. The end of Feb can't come soon enough.

Of course Nvidia is already due to launch the RTX3080 and RTX3070 with 20GB of GDDR6 memory, so by the time these consoles launch PC will still be way ahead of the graphics curve as usual.

I just want to see how much of a difference Sony's SSD integration can actually make to games that is more than just super fast load times, but actually means we get game worlds that simply aren't possible using traditional storage methods.
