I just recently got caught up with the current gen systems. I don't want to hear about the next ones for a long time myself. Each new generation is a smaller margin better than the last one, each time. There's only so much realism you can squeeze out of game graphics. I guess the jump to 4k will be the main point.

I'd be very surprised if the next gen consoles were pushing out 4k graphics. We still cant get consistent 1080p60 games this gen. And the trouble for people jumping in on the generation 2 years after launch is that your two years closer to the next gen being released so you can't expect a longer life cycle when joining two years after launch.

All that except no physical games unfortunately. Maybe a BD player for movies, but highly doubtful.

This gen is all meh remasters and a few new ones. I have yet to finish my backlog for the PS3 which I'm still buying games to play on. I will probably buy the next gen and skip the PS4/X1 era altogether.

Approximately 88% of video game sales are on physical media and yet people think that physical media is going away soon. Last edited by PenguinMaster; 02-13-2016 at 06:22 AM. |

I'm willing to bet money that not only will it play physical media but that the PS6 will too.
I even doubt that the next console will do 4K gaming when we still don't have consistent 1080p60 games on today's hardware. All digital is a long way off. The infrastructure just isn't there for all digital. There's still a large amount of people that aren't online. And some that are don't exactly have good connections. ISPs are decades away from making an all digital future possible. You would need everyone to be on a fibre connection, you would have to have no data cap at all, and no throttling. All that plus at a price everyone could afford. I'm sorry but I just don't see that happening, probably not even in my lifetime. Not unless companies wanted to lose money by killing off the large amount of sales they get from physical media and ISPs were willing to offer an unlimited service to everyone at low prices which is highly unlikely to ever happen. |

We need disks BUT I'm also kind of getting sick of having to install every damn game. It's almost defeating the object of having a physical medium since all we do is end up installing and disk becomes a validation method. Don't get me wrong, still rather have a disk. I actually want to see a faster Blu Ray or something happen where we don't have to keep installing the damn games. That or Sony get its arse in gear to allow external HDD support for games alongside the internal. 4k gaming is possible but it'll be intensive for sure so maybe only certain types of games will be able to push it without taking the system to breaking points. I think resolution hasn't been the issue for games as PS3 could do 1080p and so can PS4 but the PS4 games are clearly able to pull off better graphics. So I don't mind sticking with 1080p but bearing in mind UHD is coming, I want 4k gaming as a possibility and blu ray playback a definite. |

i don't understand how you guys want to play games in 4k. Games are not movies, its NOT only about hard drive size. You need much more resources than what it exists for current console costs. Expect 4K gaming on future consoles at least 6 years AFTER 4K becomes standard on PC gaming. |

Due to the used market that can never happen with games on physical media. I can still easily buy and use games for PS1, PS2, SNES, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Genesis, N64, Atari 2600, and every other system even though all of those games have been out of print for years. But if I want to play any downloadable content on the Playstation 2 or the original Xbox I can't: it's no longer available. Likely within a decade all downloadable games for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will be unavailable as well. Whether I'm running my games off the disc or off the hard drive isn't even a factor.
