1) If the code is from a 4K UHD Blu-ray:
1.1) If the code offers dual UV and iTunes redemption, redeem in both for movie to add to UV library and also be in iTunes in 4K. Mostly, these are not MA-eligible movies. (e.g. Paramount, Universal, some Lionsgate)
1.2) if the movie is UHD on VUDU, redeem on VUDU. Both UV and MA should be UHD, if eligible. (e.g. Warner Bros.)
1.3) if the movie is not UHD on VUDU, is it more important to appear in UV library or get 4K in iTunes? (e.g. Sony, Fox)
1.3.1) If UV is preferred, redeem according to the redemption guide spreadsheet. Will be UHD in UV, HDX in VUDU, and HD in MA. If becomes UHD on VUDU, it could theoretically upgrade to UHD through MA.
Note: Fox titles redeem HD only through UV providers, including VUDU.
1.3.2) If 4K in iTunes is preferred, redeem through Movies Anywhere site. Should be 4K in MA, including iTunes, but will only be HDX in VUDU and will not go to UV library.
1.3.3) If want both now, acquire a second 4K code. Redeem according to the redemption guide spreadsheet. Then redeem second code through Movies Anywhere.
2) If the code is from a Blu-ray:
2.1) If the code offers dual UV and iTunes redemption, redeem in both for movie to add to UV library and also receive possible iTunes 4K upgrade. Mostly, these are not MA-eligible movies. (e.g. Paramount, some Lionsgate)
2.2) If the code is either UV or iTunes, is it more important to appear in UV library or get potential 4K in iTunes? (e.g. Fox)
2.2.1) If UV is preferred, redeem in VUDU. Will be HD in UV and MA. iTunes will not be eligible for 4K upgrade.
2.2.2) If potential 4K in iTunes is preferred, redeem directly in iTunes. Will be HD in MA and be eligible for iTunes 4K upgrade. Will not be in UV library.
2.2.3) If want both, acquire a second code. Redeem first in VUDU. When the movie flows through MA to iTunes, hide it within your iTunes. Then redeem second code directly into iTunes.
2.3) If the code is only UV or MA, redeem in VUDU. Will give both UV and MA rights, if eligible. Is not eligible for iTunes 4K upgrade regardless of where redeemed.
I have not covered the topic of SD codes, as I don't have experience with those.

Feel free to point out anything I've overlooked or scenarios that I have misstated.
Disconnecting and Reconnecting Same Accounts - cadams7701

From a chat on why I can't reconnect my Vudu account after trying to refresh movies that weren't pulling in from Vudu:
"The Movies Anywhere team is making some changes to business rules regarding retailer linking. Instead of being able to connect/disconnect the same retailer account to a Movies Anywhere account an unlimited amount of times, users can only connect and disconnect once in a 72 hour period; this has been done to prevent some malicious users from exploiting our Terms of Use."

FAQs

How does this work?
  1. Connect your services to Movies Anywhere.
  2. Eligible movies will port to the Movies Anywhere service.
  3. Eligible movies will then be pushed to your connected services.
Is Microsoft or Verizon FIOS part of Movies Anywhere?
- No.

What studios are currently members of Movies Anywhere?
  • Disney
  • 20th Century Fox
  • Sony Pictures
  • Universal
  • Warner Brothers.

Will my Paramount and Lionsgate movies transfer?
No. They are not currently members of Movies Anywhere.

Can I still use Disney Movies Anywhere?
No. The service has been closed down as of 2/28/2018.

How does Movies Anywhere work with UltraViolet?
Your UltraViolet library will not port to Movies Anywhere. Eligible movies on your services (Vudu, Google Play, iTunes, Amazon) will port to Movies Anywhere. Movies from iTunes, Google Play or Amazon that are UltraViolet eligible will not transfer into your UltraViolet account via Vudu.

If I redeem a movie code at Movies Anywhere will I also get it in my UltraViolet library? - GuyIncognito
No, you will not. Movies do not "flow" into UltraViolet from Movies Anywhere. You will not get UltraViolet rights.

How can I redeem a code so that it registers with both Movies Anywhere and UltraViolet?
The best place to redeem a code so that you get it in both digital movies lockers is Vudu. If a movie is not offered in one of those lockers, you will not get it in that locker.

Does Mobile Disc 2 Digital from Vudu still work?
Yes. Any eligible movie that can be scanned will be added to both your UltraViolet and Movies Anywhere lockers.

Why are my movies not showing up?
If you have a large collection, it could take some time to populate connected services. If you don't see them after a bit, try disconnecting and reconnecting services. If they still do not show up, then confirm they are from participating studios.

Does Movies Anywhere work outside the United States? - Dunk the Lunk
No. Movies Anywhere currently only works for residents of the United States.

Will movies that are added to my UltraViolet account that are bought by friends be added to Movies Anywhere? - Shuwatch ploog
Yes. If one of your friends buys a movie and it is added to the shared UltraViolet locker, then when that movie gets added to a shared locker service (Vudu connects UltraViolet and Movies Anywhere lockers) it will be added to your Movies Anywhere locker and then added to all your connected services. Vudu is currently allowing UltraViolet movies to "flow" to Movies Anywhere.

How can I sort my movies?
Your movies are organized based on when you purchased them from the various services. The sort button is located at the top right corner of the My Movies screen and is a drop down menu consisting of four options: Recently Added, Release Date, A-Z, and Z-A.

Will I get 4K movies from my codes in either Movies Anywhere? - GuyIncognito
Apple is upgrading HD movies to 4K for free if you have purchased them or redeemed a code in iTunes. These movies will not "flow" to other services. Likewise a movie purchased from Vudu, Google, Amazon or FandangoNOW in UHD will not flow to iTunes in 4K. A movie code redeemed at the Movies Anywhere site will not yield a 4K version, even if it came with a 4K movie.

Will I get a movie in HD from an SD code? - GuyIncognito
By redeeming an SD code at the Movies Anywhere website, your SD code will redeem as a SD movie. This will "flow" to all the connected services in SD. You will not get an UltraViolet copy when redeeming at Movies Anywhere.

If you redeem an old disc based code in iTunes the you will also receive an SD copy of that movie in iTunes which will then "flow" to the connected services.

How about SD movie purchases? Will those get the free upgrade also? - GuyIncognito
No. They will only be available in SD.

Are television shows eligible for Movies Anywhere?
As of this time television shows are not eligible.

Is there a way to exclude certain movies from a child's profile on MA? - AllieFox
At this time there is not. The only way to exclude specific movies is by rating. Google Play has the ability to exclude or include specific movies. Create a family group and add your kids, then choose which movies they can view.

Default Studios to Join the Disney Movies Anywhere Platform?

Holy crap this could be huge...

"Disney Movies Anywhere uses separate so-called KeyChest technology that also will allow consumers to access digital files of movies acquired from third party sites such as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Instant Video, and Vudu, among others."

I would welcome this with open arms. I don't see the downside. It just gives us more options as consumers when it comes to watching our movies.

I guess I don't understand how this would make things less complicated for digital consumers, though. If every studio has their own KeyChest, then you'd need to create accounts with each studio. But I guess once you've done that, it would be easy.

I assume there would just be one service, not one per studio, but obviously it's way too early to tell...

WB just kind of did that this week with WB Movies All Access app.

So.....Disney is trying to make KeyChest the new Ultraviolet? These companies....nobody likes to band together and do something, they all just want to be in charge and then have others join.

Hopefully we can get Touchstone and Hollywood pictures and other studios already own by Disney into their keychest. I would also like the Disney channel movies/shows in it.

I think this is a move to enable them to do just that. Some of those Disney mini studios have R rated fare that they probably don't want under the Disney name. This would open things up for them...

I'm all for a one for all format but, where was Disney when the DECE was taking members to vote on that format? They were giving them the finger. I imagine all the other studios and DECE members will return the favor.

Ultraviolet has been kind of a disaster though. dma did pretty much everything that ultraviolet should have. Namely ultraviolet never got any major streaming service to join its little band (cloesest thing it had was vudu that grew up to be sort of major thanks to Walmart money). uv codes redeeming different quality copies at different studios and having each studio tell you to go somewhere else to redeem something is a nightmare as far as simplicity goes so hopefully if disney takes over the unified platform they get rid of that nonsense as well.

They can not join because it hurts their pride but disney has accomplished what uv was supposed to bridging the gap between amazon itunes, google play, microsoft and vudu. It will cost them money though as if even some of the studios join disney uv will be doomed as the inferior brand (a lot already consider it the inferior brand when its just vs itunes ).

I'm in agreement with pretty much all of this.

This could really be big. Disney Movies Anywhere is what Ultraviolet should have been from the start, managing to work in the other big companies- Amazon, iTunes, Google, Vudu, Microsoft- and unite them with one digital locker system. Ultraviolet has Vudu and that's pretty much it.

I have bought SO many DMA-eligible films because I know that they'll sink over to all the others and I can access them from my Microsoft computer, my Apple iPhone, or my Amazon Fire tablet. I've only redeemed Ultraviolet films that came from physical home media that I purchased.

At the end of the day the single format for all makes sense and I'm all for it. What we don't know is why Ultraviolet was not excepted by Disney, Apple Amazon and Google but it wouldn't surprise me if it was Disney (who is tied at the hip to Disney) Giving Apple An EXCLUSIVE, so they are where they feel they deserve to be, and everybody else followed suit since Apple did....Who knows, let's see where this goes.

If Disney wants to expand DMA to other studios seems like they would start in their own backyard.

As I said above, Disney needs to do this in order to expand their own backyard. There's no way they can bring their R rated films under the Disney banner. The new, re-named platform will allow them to do that.

I love this but I would prefer to have them keep Disney Movies Anywhere as a separate brand. It's perfect for my kids to use. I know everything in the app will be fine for them to watch.

Another article had an interesting point:

"Many of the same parent companies have already allied in streaming media via Hulu. Walt Disney, 21st Century Fox and Comcast each own 30% of Hulu, and Time Warner recently acquired a 10% stake, while rivals like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are moving more towards original content instead of studio fare."
