I think people who feel UV is a disaster are the same who feel iTunes is amazing. Without UV, I wouldn't be in the digital copy world. For years I would buy a disc that came with a digital copy only to never be able to use it unless I bought an apple device. Everyone who didn't own an apple device was basically excluded from digital copies. UV opened the door since it wasn't tied to a specific brand. And honestly, that's the way it should be.
Today I have an iPhone and an Apple watch. I tried the Apple TV, but prefer my Rokus. Still on my iPhone, I can watch my entire collection of UV with Vudu, just like I could on my previous device. If I switch devices in the future my collection will go with me. Again, this is how it should be. UV isn't that complicated. I have redeemed 99% of my codes on Vudu without issues. Apple, Amazon, Google, they all could have and can join but so far they choose not to. Last edited by squatting hen; 12-15-2016 at 02:11 AM. |

UV has two major things going for it that DMA never did. Movie Sharing - Okay, it doesn't work that great right now, but if you have family members, movie sharing is a GREAT feature. TV UV Status - Okay, this is technically a Disney decision, and it might have something to do with the name "Disney Movies Anywhere" (emphasis on movies), but still, it's a shame. It's kind of a shame to have the MCU movies via DMA, but not tie-in content like "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." or "Marvel's Agent Carter". Other than those two things, and of course, the studio support that UV has, I agree, DMA blows UV out of the water. |

Yes but if iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, Google, Windows, etc were all part of UV then it would be perfect. Those guys have chosen to stay separate. DMA is basically UV just with one studio.

One has to wonder why (other than Disney's leverage) did they support DMA, but not UV (aside from VUDU)? However, yes, if iTunes, VUDU, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc. supported UV, it would be better. This is true, though still not perfect. Just look at this week's 4K release of "Suicide Squad". Redeeming at VUDU gives you a 4K digital copy of the theatrical release and an HD version of the extended edition in your UV locker. Redeeming at Flixster gives you a 4K version of both. Redeeming "Divergent" from the 4K disc at Flixster gives you a 4K copy, but redeeming at VUDU gives you an HD copy. Your UV library might include a TV season, but at VUDU, it might show you own every episode of the season, but still gives you an option to BUY the season, because it doesn't know you don't own the season. There are flaws... Though it's very possible that if DMA had more studios and TV series/episodes, it's possible it could be as buggy as well. Right now, it's simpler and gives you more options to view your content. |

They are all buggy sometimes, UV , iTunes, DMA. 4k is fairly new on codes. Which iTunes code give you 4k or which DMA gives 4k? (I know Disney doesn't have 4k, just expanding your comments). I redeemed Suicide Squad on Vudu and have UHD for both extended and theatrical in my UV account.... DMA doesn't even offer TV seasons....yet. As you stated I am sure it would be just as "buggy" if they had more studios/TV shows. Disney is Disney. Everyone is going to support them. They probably have more pull than any other studio. I mean who's is going to be the moron who says, Naw, we don't need people watching their Disney collection on our site/app/ppatform. Last edited by squatting hen; 12-15-2016 at 02:56 AM. |

Look, I don't care if it's UV or KeyChest, I just want a digital locker system that works with the most providers, and offers the least amount of trouble. If UV can get additional video providers under their belt, and work out a few kinks, great! If Disney can get the job done better and attract more partners, then great, and if the studios want to support both, fantastic! |

This would be great! I knew Warner would be the next after Disney to start their own thing like this. Thats the way they are. Can't believe they gave people the choice of what the name should be and then came up with a new one all together.
I wouldn't mind if each studio had their own redemption site like Disney has with DMA. Because it goes to ALL the linked providers. UV doesn't do this all the time. It IS a mess of sorts. Like many have mentioned, some places you can't redeem everything for some reason, or it is not "UV" at the time. At DMA it has worked every time, with all providers. I use iTunes because that is where I started my digital collection. I like it because its all in one place and looks nice. I redeem UV before they "expire". Recently I tried out the Vudu app on my TV and found it works much better then on a computer, and change my thinking on UV a little. But dropping UV for a Keychest seems kind of strange since its the same thing. But if all studios can get together and get the big providers like Disney has. Its all good for everyone. I'm in favor of it. Redeem one place watch literally anywhere. Like it should have been to begin with. Last edited by TheDean; 12-15-2016 at 06:34 AM. |

I'm with you, UV works well for me, I don't have any issues to speak of. Iv'e said many times digital needs to be like DVD, you can purchase and play on anybody's player. This is a matter of what makes more sense. All the studios (except Disney) along with dozens of supporting companies who formed the "Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem" and voted on a universal system "Ultraviolet"----drop everything they did, and join one studio "Disney" and let Disney dictate the rules, and most know Disney's rules are not exactly friendly to the consumer. Or, Apple and Disney can swallow their pride and do what they should of done years ago and join UV. As I said it all works great for me now. Everything is in one place, I don't need multiple players, but for the good of digital if that is where we are going it needs to be as universal as DVD but, that can't happen as long as some providers are trying to have content purchased in their store limited to playback on their device in their store. |

This article from over a year ago has some interesting nuggets...
"Tsujihara said Disney and other studios could maintain separate sellthrough platforms while combining cloud-based functionality on the backend. The executive said combining user data between UltraViolet and Disney would help the industry grow digital content sales." http://www.homemediamagazine.com/stu...anywhere-35355 |

Also if the UV provider is willing to agree to Apple's cut, they could also sell content in the apple ecosystem, but we know they won't pay the 30% or so Apple wants. |
