Default We Can Be Heroes (Robert Rodriguez Netflix Film)

Source: Deadline

Quote:

Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star in Netflix kid superhero feature We Can Be Heroes, a new IP which is being written, directed and produced by Alita: Battle Angel and Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez.

The under-the-radar project will see alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, meaning a group of children have to team up to save their parents and the world.

Little else is being revealed about the project at this stage but it’s fair to say it’s skewing more towards Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel and the lucrative Spy Kids franchise rather than his darker Sin City. It is currently in production.

I'm sure 10-year-old cinephiles will be excited for this... And only them.

My first take from this was "why did she have to Jonas her very exotic name?" Then when I realized I didn't truly care I segued into "Her name is Jonas...she's carrying the wheel..."

I'll definitely be checking this out. The Spy Kids films aren't too bad...plus my son randomly watched part 2 on Netflix ("why not start with part 1?" I ask. "Cause I don't want to." Alrighty then.) and it was more amusing with a child in attendance. I just hope this one's more Spy Kids and less Sharkboy in terms of quality.

I realized long ago Rodriguez was a one-hit wonder for me. I LOVE Desperado, but the rest of his filmography is pretty mediocre. The kiddie flicks are fine for kids, but don't do anything for me (and look as low-budget as they are - stop doing your own effects, Robert), and his live-action stuff I just don't care for. The first half of From Dusk Till Dawn is decent, though once the vampires show up it drops in quality, and The Faculty was okay for what it was; but the Sin City movies, Machete, etc... ugh, no thanks. Even Alita, which had a big budget and James Cameron involved, was unimpressive in its directing, visual effects, story, writing, etc.

Probably why she got together with Shark Boy. His water powers lowered her heat levels.

Is it that hard to make another film along the lines of Desperado, Sin City, or From Dusk Till Dawn?

Man, this looks like another blue/greenscreen crapfest with kids.
Then again, maybe he will surprise us.

Now where's that 25th anniversary uncut version of Desperado

Quote:
The MPAA originally gave the movie an NC 17 rating. Many deaths and action scenes had to be heavily cut down for an R rating. These include the death scenes of Pick Up guy and his friend at the bar and the death of Danny Trejo's character. By far the most major excision came at the end of the film, which originally contained a large-scale shootout between El Mariachi, Carolina, Bucho and his thugs at Bucho's mansion. However, owing to the amount of footage the MPAA demanded be removed from the scene, Rodriguez elected to remove the sequence in its entirety, giving the film its final fade-out ending. Two additional scenes were also deleted featuring the "crotch-gun" (seen in the guitar case). Originally, the gun was used by El Mariachi during the second bar shootout when he uses it to shoot the pony tailed thug in the balls before whipping out his pistols from his sleeves and finishing him off. In a second deleted scene, the crotch gun went off accidentally while Banderas is in bed with Hayek, blowing a hole through the guitar that they were playing.
