The new VEI DVD complete series is apparently based on the same squeaky clean masters as the BR's. Thus, they can't be better then the BR's, and as far as the older DVDs, that would likely depend on how much you prefer clean image with some loss of detail to a grainier image with more detail.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with seasons 1-3 (16mm) looking better on the original DVDs and seasons 4-7 (35mm) better on the new VEI version.

Regarding Stargate Universe, VEI may very well be dropping it in the next few weeks, as the Stargate Atlantis announcement quickly followed this release. All three series have been re-released this year on DVD, so it looks incredibly promising.

If 2020 has any upsides, it's been in finally getting some long languishing TV series titles on BD, from completing The Office to 30 Rock and now SG-1.

Couldn't afford to order this before Christmas like I intended .
Besides the bad packaging looks like a big enough upgrade to me to buy after the new year .
Can't be any worse than the original DVD box set's I bought that have a crazy amount of microblocking .

I ordered directly from VEI after comparing costs with Amazon...saved just under $15 dollars going with VEI since they don’t charge sales tax, and their base price was lower than on Amazon.

Not sure if those screenshots hint at an upscale but the DNR is annoying. Hoping it translates well in motion because we all know screenshots don't always tell the whole tale.
That being said it still looks better than the DVD and being Widescreen is a huge plus.

cdittmer; Thank you very much for all this information. I was wondering if you could upload a video sample, I don't know, 20 or 30 seconds of video of an episode of season 1. Well, seeing photos is not the same as watching the moving image. Since I improved the first 7 seasons with VEAI, but there are always halos and rare artifacts. So I would like to see a moving image, to see if those weird things are appreciated too, or they really did a better job.

Here are scans of the booklet that come with the set and lists all of the special features. There is a bonus disc of features as part of the set in addition to features on certain discs.
