I mean I would say it is an issue. Honestly, the fact that Shout Factory stole/copied fansubs instead of just asking or ya know making their damn own really looks bad for Shout Factory (which I mean I don’t really have high expectations when it come to Toku. This is the same company that went silent for two years on Sentai and hasn’t obtained a new rider since 2021.) I only pointed it out to show how that was release was super sloppy.

I mean the people Skyline Media hired to do the Saber ENGLISH Subs just used the fansubs done by Flame….. and when it came to light, Skyline Media took down the subs from Netflix Vietnam and later added those English Subs back and gave credit to the fansubber. Meanwhile, Shout Factory hasn’t even acknowledge what they did and the fansubber doesn’t want to deal with the drama.

And honestly at the time those fansubs were probably made, I really doubt anyone believed Sentai was getting US releases and it was doubtful that Saban/Toei would give enough of damn to do anything about it. If you can’t/won’t support a product, in another country, on matters regarding whether you can make money off the product or not ( or too lazy), you really don’t get to complain when your show is watched “illegally” in other countries. That’s why I never really cared much about the bootleg releases of Toku and anime that will never get US physical releases let alone US Streaming releases.

Also, the last time Shout did something like this was with Ohranger and IIRC, Brian Ward wasn't aware that their hired translator did it since other Sentai sets before and after Ohranger were different from other fansubs.

Meanwhile Discotek used a fansub group's translation for Juspion with their permission and not only updated it but credited them at the end of the disc.

Yeah, like we can debate on the legality of Fansubs all we want. It still looks bad when a big company like Shout Factory copies/steals fansubs instead of just translating it

To use another example of both good and bad, when Tokyopop got the Initial D anime, they used a fansub group's script and credited them in their credits for both First and Second Stage (and Extra Stage 1) but then when Funimation got the show, they didn't credit them nor whoever tweaked the translation (since I heard back then of some differences) but they did credit their translator who worked on Third & Fourth Stage which were first time releases.

Fan subs and official subs should both strive to produce the best translation as possible, so the official sub trying to change wordings just to avoid plagiarism on a unofficial translation isn't a great idea. Ideally any translation wouldn't be 1:1 every single time, but some can be better than others.
They can't always pay them (fan subs should be a non-profit effort after all) but it doesn't hurt to give proper credit where they can.

Though I don't personally care enough to avoid a product just because they did not provide proper credit for the subs.

For me the point was more, Dekaranger’s release and shipping was kind of sloppy. I got super lucky my copy was not damaged. Other people were not lucky. The stolen/copied fansubs was just icing on the cake. Presuming Shout ever does another Toku release, hopefully they actually translate it instead of copying. I mean if the fansub was literally 1:1 to Japanese Audio, then obviously Shout can’t really do much, but from what I understand English to Japanese isn’t exactly 1:1 unless it’s official terms/proper nouns.

Has anyone heard anything about the Shin J, ZO, trilogy from MediaBlasters? They said “it was still on the horizon” and they mentioned something about AnimeExpo, but I wondering if they meant they would show something at AnimeExpo?

The last thing they said about it was plans for a Anime NJ+ exclusive packaging, which would suggest a November release - but the plan isn't set in stone. We should hear another update soon as we approach the month.

Ok, wasn’t sure. Not sure how the release windows go For other distributors. I know Shout always does 3 monthes in advance. Didn’t know how it went for MediaBlasters.

They're smaller and work on things at their own pace. Lately it seems that they put pre-orders up about a month in advance, but delays still happen.

They'll be ready when they're ready.

I'm quoting Duke for this thread since he's campaigning in other parts of the forum. These both fall under the expanded toku category.

The higher the sales, the more likely we’ll get more Japanese films from labels like MM and similar ones. I truly urge everyone taking a chance with these two, as you will not regret it. They are fantastic films. Here is the link to place an order.

Just preordered it….. Probablly better if I got this and Pikmin 1+2 (from Play Asia as multilaunguage) over MK12

Question about Shin Ultraman, I still plan to pick it up but if I asked for a replacement with the requirements they want (order info and such), would they send their newest replacement disc or reject it now in favor of buying from their online store?

They worded my reply as if they wouldn't replace any copies of the 2nd edition, regardless of if you bought it or received it as a replacement.
You could try as I haven't seen anyone else do so, but the best bet is either buy direct or wait awhile to see if other stores get a restock with the new version.
It would be easier if you bought the first edition. Not sure who is still selling it. They would probably ask for photo confirmation.
