I mean the people Skyline Media hired to do the Saber ENGLISH Subs just used the fansubs done by Flame….. and when it came to light, Skyline Media took down the subs from Netflix Vietnam and later added those English Subs back and gave credit to the fansubber. Meanwhile, Shout Factory hasn’t even acknowledge what they did and the fansubber doesn’t want to deal with the drama. And honestly at the time those fansubs were probably made, I really doubt anyone believed Sentai was getting US releases and it was doubtful that Saban/Toei would give enough of damn to do anything about it. If you can’t/won’t support a product, in another country, on matters regarding whether you can make money off the product or not ( or too lazy), you really don’t get to complain when your show is watched “illegally” in other countries. That’s why I never really cared much about the bootleg releases of Toku and anime that will never get US physical releases let alone US Streaming releases. Also, the last time Shout did something like this was with Ohranger and IIRC, Brian Ward wasn't aware that their hired translator did it since other Sentai sets before and after Ohranger were different from other fansubs.
Meanwhile Discotek used a fansub group's translation for Juspion with their permission and not only updated it but credited them at the end of the disc. Last edited by Gowho; 09-06-2023 at 08:47 PM. |

Yeah, like we can debate on the legality of Fansubs all we want. It still looks bad when a big company like Shout Factory copies/steals fansubs instead of just translating it

Fan subs and official subs should both strive to produce the best translation as possible, so the official sub trying to change wordings just to avoid plagiarism on a unofficial translation isn't a great idea. Ideally any translation wouldn't be 1:1 every single time, but some can be better than others.
They can't always pay them (fan subs should be a non-profit effort after all) but it doesn't hurt to give proper credit where they can. Though I don't personally care enough to avoid a product just because they did not provide proper credit for the subs. |

Has anyone heard anything about the Shin J, ZO, trilogy from MediaBlasters? They said “it was still on the horizon” and they mentioned something about AnimeExpo, but I wondering if they meant they would show something at AnimeExpo?

The last thing they said about it was plans for a Anime NJ+ exclusive packaging, which would suggest a November release - but the plan isn't set in stone. We should hear another update soon as we approach the month.

Ok, wasn’t sure. Not sure how the release windows go For other distributors. I know Shout always does 3 monthes in advance. Didn’t know how it went for MediaBlasters.

I'm quoting Duke for this thread since he's campaigning in other parts of the forum. These both fall under the expanded toku category.

Question about Shin Ultraman, I still plan to pick it up but if I asked for a replacement with the requirements they want (order info and such), would they send their newest replacement disc or reject it now in favor of buying from their online store?

You could try as I haven't seen anyone else do so, but the best bet is either buy direct or wait awhile to see if other stores get a restock with the new version. It would be easier if you bought the first edition. Not sure who is still selling it. They would probably ask for photo confirmation. |
