It would appear not to be the case in the US.

Just got from the store where the steelbook was already available to pick up though it's supposed to be released in one week here in France. Specs are Dolby Vision and DTS HD master audio for English speakers. I'll be watching the 4k this afternoon !

I am not sure yet if I'm going to upgrade this movie from Blu-ray, but I think the Steelbook looks nicer than the regular.

You might want to put them in a box and save them. After waiting a couple years and they stop putting on the slipcovers, people will pay money to get some of them.

I still remember being 16 and watching Scream 2 on VHS and thinking " Where do I know this music from?! "

I'm pretty sure it will be the same for everyone. It has the menu language settings at the very beginning, it also contains the extras and it's region free.

Some impressions

Though I was skeptical a year might be too soon for a rewatch, I’d forgotten lots of it and enjoyed it just as much if not more. Not sure if it was noticeable on the previous master but I could make out lots of the Miramax posters and tapes in the video store - Clerks, Smoke and on the top of the TV you can see a tape with the Miramax M logo. I’ve never seen any of the sequels so maybe I should find some time in December for that, before the new film comes out in January. Shame those haven’t been remastered though. The film is funnier for it’s Wes Carpenter and Nightmare references (only the first one is good!) knowing that Craven directed it. I’m not actually sure I’ve seen a Craven film since I last watched Scream, but I would like to check out titles like The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs and My Soul to Take.

There are so many things to like about this film, including the 90s soundtrack and its iconic performances. There’s a lot of suspense wrought out from the cops perhaps not being as thorough as they should be, and enabling underage drinking, breaking curfew and falling into seduction! And maybe it does Halloween better than Halloween does Halloween. Of course it would be nice if the unrated shots from the laserdisc were back but I don’t think it’s detrimental to the film.

Scream is knowingly unoriginal (the killer on the telephone had already been done in When a Stranger Calls) yet ironically that’s part of what makes the film feel fresh and original. While I wouldn’t go as far as to say life is a movie, sometimes it does follow a formula, throw in some plot twists and you can predict how it’s going to end, and then you throw on some music and change scenery. Part of Craven’s strength is ensuring his women are powerful, fighting back and usually coming across better than the immature, crass, insensitive sex crazed men in the film. As with Nightmare he handles the subject of trauma very well.

While cinemas haven’t always been perfect in getting new releases out there this year, I’m grateful I’ve been able to see several spooky and horror classics on the big screen like Hellraiser, The Exorcist, Carrie, Coraline, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist.

Also worth noting that it starts with the Dimension logo, rather than substituting it with the Paramount and/or Miramax logos

Time to feel a bit older, as it was actually the 25th anniversary screening.

Like me. I've paid ridiculous amounts of $ for slipcovers. I would never throw those away.

Just watched the movie and it looks pristine in 4K !!
First of all, it's not the Director's Cut but i really don't care to be honest...

The grain is still here but it looks very natural and organic, no DNR detected too ! Colors are vibrant but not over saturated like they used to be and contrasts are perfect. I can't believe we finally watch this movie in the best way we can now! We even gain some image on all sides. There is a sense of debth too that is quite amazing (I never saw the 'Sydney's Kitchen' scene so clearly (before she gets first attacked)! Even the bluray transfer looks amazing ! The 4K only adds some polish with the Dolby Vision/HDR (the lights or police cars neons look sharp and alive for instance.)

The new featurette is very promo oriented with the new movie to come in January. it's basically the original cast and the new actors talking about the Scream legacy (the first movie). Nothing extraordinary, they also talk about Wes Craven too which is quite emotional.

Now all we need are the others in 4K !

Thanks for the info! I assume the new trailer was not on the disc as a lead in preview?

I think I honestly just had a flashback...now THAT is what I remember seeing several dozen times in the theater so long ago!!

For years now, I've just assumed that the opening sequence has kind of lost a bit of the shine, to me, and that my memories of how vibrant it was were more nostalgia.

But now, even just seeing that YouTube clip - with just the Blu-ray source! - it looks brand new all over again. Just...wow. It wasn't my memory playing tricks - it is that dang HD master we have been living with all these years that is just flat and totally lifeless. I mean, I knew it was bad - but this is crazy, LOL.

I was already excited about this release, but now I am HYPED...but I do have to repeat the refrain we keep seeing here - damnit, I want the rest of them in UHD now ASAP!!!
