Bought with the 25% off coupon in JB's Get Hooked Boxed Sets promotion.
Would've been nice if they included the original 1960 movie as well!

Yikes... did it literally turn up looking like that? What an absolute bollocks.

I ordered a copy of the Makaveli - Don Killuminati 7 Day Theory CD from Musicmagpie one time and got sent a porno DVD featuring Snoop Dogg. Damn thing is still sitting in my drawer because I'll be buggered if was gonna spend another 10 bucks or whatever to send it back to the UK.

Whether it is Amazon UK, FR or DE: They all use that same shithouse packaging, which arrives almost falling apart.
Prefer Amazon US’s Bubble Mailer, even if every now and then cases come cracked.

Purchased at JB to finish off the $10 left on my gift card-

I also watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theatres today. It was... ok. It isn't an abomination as what people are saying, but it's fine. It ain't the prequels!

Also spent my $30 Dymocks gift card by buying George Orwell's Animal Farm and The Communist Manifesto, the latter choice being recommended by one of my friends. Hey, I'm a teenager. We make fun of Communism all the time.

Abomination? The Last Jedi. There is a rather vocal minority that are shitting all over it because they forget that Star Wars is a Sci-Fi fantasy. It is basically wizards in space, in a highly technological society.

Some people can’t get over the use of new Jedi powers and the plot/character direction didn’t go the way they thought it would.
In A New Hope, did anyone blink when Obi-Wan’s body disappeared into thin air when “struck down” by Vader.
When Obi-Wan from beyond the grave spoke to Luke.
In Empire, was there an outcry when Luke used telekinesis to pull his Lightsaber from the ice in the Wampa cave, Force jumping out of the Carbon Freezing chamber in Cloud City OR lastly, did people go WTF in Jedi when lightning came out of the Emporers fingers... NO, because it is a SCI-FI FANTASY with SPACE WIZARDS.

IMO, I thought Rian Johnson did a great job writing and directing. The story was original, clever, suspenseful, funny (albeit some humour falls short) and with just the right amount of action. The Rose/Finn storyline to the Gambling planet was a bit weak (and the story that follows was only par) but in the overall scheme of things, the weakest portion was hidden amongst a very good plot/story with the Luke/Rey/Ben Story, Snoke’s sequences, First Power vs. Resistance chase, Poe’s insurrection. The final act was also well done. On the whole, a great contribution to the series and way better than any of the prequels. 9/10.

Leave your preconceptions at the door when you watch TLJ.

^ I wrote the above comment all in caps, but the forum automatically put it in a lowercase, and then wouldn’t let me edit it. Doesn’t have the same impact. But, just imagine me shouting that from the rooftops.

More like:

I'm glad you liked it but to say it is a minority of people that didn't like it is just wrong. That wouldn't lead to record box office drops for the series, which is what happened. It is likely to fall short of TFA with over $600 million less despite opening only slightly smaller then the TFA.

Ask yourself, did you really think a decade ago that new Star Wars film would be doing less business then some of the Fast and Furious films? I don't like the f&f films, but they have clearly found a huge market that does like what there doing. Star Wars has a huge market, but the reaction in the falling box office speaks for itself.

The real issue is the script which thematically contradicts itself, has large plot threads that lead no where, have some of the dumbest moments I've seen in a Hollywood film in years
[Show spoiler](How Rose "saves" Finn which also has one of those thematically contradictions)
, among a plethora of other issues. I'm glad you liked it, but don't act as if it is people just nitpicking issues with the film. There are large issues that you are able to overlook which is fine, many however are not able to overlook those issues.

This isn’t really the place for this convo but I’m gonna chip in.

I produced a series of videos on YouTube about The Last Jedi.
One of which I titled “How Star Wars Fans Killed Star Wars” — that video has a like-to-dislike ratio of 1,557-to-550.
Another was a video I called “The Last Jedi: Deleted Scenes” — that video has a like-to-dislike ratio of 2,841-to-373.
I did two reviews of the film which had like-to-dislike ratios of 203-to-57 and 111-to-09.
Not to mention, every manually monitored online audience score aggregator, has shown more people enjoyed the movie than disliked it. Only online aggregator showing any kind of division is Rotten Tomatoes, which is automatically aggregated.
It’s incredibly clear that *most* audience members liked the movie, those who didn’t are a VERY vocal minority.

The movie has banked over a billion dollars so far. Something only 4/16 Marvel movies have achieved — most all of which have been considered successful. As for the movie falling short of TFA. That was ALWAYS a given. TFA had 10 years of build-up and anticipation — new characters, new locations, new story. It drew everyone in. It wasn’t just “another Star Wars movie” it was a cinematic experience.
Do you really think James Cameron’s Avatar sequels are going to Best the original???

This said... I wish there was just ONE place on the internet I could go to escape this whole Star Wars fan debate... can we get back to the blus, please?

I didn't think it would best TFA never said I thought it would, but to come up so short despite opening so close to it is a strong sign that people where not returning or enjoying it as much. Especially given how large the week to week drops have been for the film. Series record drops, which is worse when you consider TLJ was released near Christmas which is when drops are generally much smaller, whereas the other films had smaller drops despite releasing when drops are generally much higher.

You're argument would hold if the film opened much smaller and overall did much less business. But it opened only a few percent of TFA. The initial interest was there, but it faded really quickly. It had a 67.5% drop, which for a winter release mid year would be huge. For a film released near Christmas is a colossus drop. For comparison TFA dropped 40% from the first to second weekend. Which is maybe a little more then you would expect at this time of year, but not by much.

The last time I saw a Star Wars film at the movies. Jar Jar binks was in it and I was the only person in the theatre... I probably should get out more!

Ok, I haven't gotten anything new, but just mentioning that I thought that The Last Jedi was fine. It was an ok film. It's anything but awful.
