Default Who else collects Blu-rays only?

What I mean by that is I collect Blu-rays only (no DVDís / 4Kís). I donít collect DVDís because I canít subject myself to poor quality but then hypocritically I wonít upgrade to 4K due to being happy and content with how my Blu-s look on my 65íí Samsung HDR 4K TV. Are there others that are yet to convert to 4K disc due to the same reasons as myself? (Cost of a movie and the fact I donít currently own a 4K player as of yet!).

I couldnít figure out where this discussion would fit in so ended up chucking it in the general chat. Feel free to re-navigate should you wish moderators

Cheers!

There was a point in time where I thought I was done with DVD and had nearly rid myself of all copies of the films I owned on the format about 10 years ago as I was focused only on Blu Ray but then as the years went by and it became apparent that DVD still very much had a place in my movie collecting life due to so many films not having made it to Blu Ray (even to this day) that I knew I'd be buying DVD's possibly forever, though hopefully in small quantitates as like you I prefer Blu Ray. In recent years I've acquired a handful of 4k films though haven't fully committed to the format myself just yet and typically reserve purchases for sale pricing, newer productions and/or films I really really enjoy.

Very hard to be Blu-ray only since till this day, there are MANY MANY titles that are on DVD that are not, and probably never will see the light of day, on Blu-ray. So DVDs will always be something that will co-exist along with my BDs.

I will buy a movie on DVD only if I can't find it on Blu-ray. I think DVDs will still be around for quite a while.

I collect VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and UHD.

I collect movies, not just formats. Sometimes, a movie is not available on a certain format. I am also region free. The more options you have, the better.

Looks like you have two questions here. To answer the first one, I collect DVDs and Blu-rays. Still have a few VHS tapes but haven't bought one in ages. Some movies aren't available on Blu-ray so if I want it, I have to by the DVD. My player upconverts to 1080p so it looks pretty good.

Your other question...I don't have a 4k TV and I don't see it ever happening unless they're the only thing available. The reason is the same reason for me still having a 5.1 system. It's good enough for my needs. I don't need anything more.

This. But I also have a few UMDs, some VCDs and came close to owning one of those old vinyl based video disc systems (kicking myself for not getting it)

Got fed up with all the DVD's that won't play, because of scratches, or disc rot. The hell with DVD.

Like if its dvds I find at Dollar Tree and are basically expecting a one time watch, sure.

I think I only have 3 4K and it was because they were Target exclusives like the last two Avengers films.

But like you, its pretty much BLU or nothing for the keepers.

Despite still owning 600+ DVDs I rarely watch any of them. Maybe if I still had a CRT TV but, no, I don't want to subject myself to that torture via my 75 inch 4K set. Many of my still stuck on DVD titles are from Paramount and they've been slowly upgrading them so pretty soon I'll only be left with the Z grade stuff.

I'm perfectly happy with the Blu-ray format to be honest. I'll upgrade all the important stuff like Indiana Jones and The Good, the Bad & the Ugly to 4K but I have no plans to further upgrade newer films shot on HD video. No need to, really.

It's nice to see your collection transitioning. As long as I have space, I will keep as much as possible. I could never get rid off my collection like some people do. Time, money, and energy was dedicated to getting every single title and no way I will undo all that effort by selling them off quick and cheap.

I got into LD a few years ago mainly for Star Wars OT and I began really digging the format, so I have almost 200 LDs now.

I don't really go after DVDs anymore. BD or UHD for me.

for the most part, I stick mainly to blu ray because of budgetary constraints. I only had to get a few dvds to replace blu rays I'd lost and didn't want to repay for (mainly my lethal weapon and rush hour collections), and 4Ks because I couldn't find them in their preceding formats before I started using Amazon as a crutch for buying blus due to places like Walmart's media section being devoured by a pack of hungry 24 inch televisions and overflowing DVD bins, Best Buy diminishing their media section, and Barnes and Noble seemingly has gone to a bit of standstill since my last stop there this January and the preceding visit in the winter of 2019.
