Default Lena Headey as Cersei

They announced yesterday (or the day before):

Lena Headey (300) as Cersei Lannister.

Sounds spot on to me.

The cast so far (courtesy of Wikipedia):

Sean Bean - Eddard Stark

Jennifer Ehle - Catelyn Stark

Richard Madden - Robb Stark

Sophie Turner
- Sansa Stark

Maisie Williams - Arya Stark

Kit Harington - Jon Snow

Alfie Allen - Theon Greyjoy

Mark Addy - Robert Baratheon

Lena Headey - Cersei Lannister

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - Jaime Lannister

Peter Dinklage - Tyrion Lannister

Jack Gleeson - Joffrey Baratheon

Tamzin Merchant - Daenerys Targaryen

Harry Lloyd - Viserys Targaryen

Iain Glen - Jorah Mormont

And I believe they start actually filming either at the end of this month or sometime October.

Saucy. Very Saucy.

Yeah, saw that about Headey. Glad to see her in this - I think she'll do great as Cersei, but I'd rather have seen her as Catelyn.

I still don't see the guy they picked for Robert fitting the part at ALL.

Can't wait till this starts!

1st Game of Thrones teaser trailer. Might have to subscribe to HBO again next year. Winter's coming indeed!!

Also a good article and interview with George RR Martin about the development of the series.

No way! I don't want another "Legend of the Seeker"!

I don't want a watered down, shuffled story line to make it fit for tv.

I want A Song of Fire and Ice to be just as brutal as it was in the books. It fits HBO like a glove.

They better hurry up and film this stuff or these kids are going to start growing up. Sheesh, this thing has been taking forever.

And George needs to write a freakin' book, man I hope that guy doesn't die of a heart attack before he finishes these things.

I think he meant that this thread should be moved to the television forum.

This as been on my mind since the September of 2007 and the death of Robert Jordan. It was a sad day and it left the Wheel Of Time not completed. Of course Jordan knew he was on borrowed time and worked on making all of his notes in order so that the books could be completed. The author Brandon Sanderson as been picked by Jordan's wife and the publisher to write the final 3 books of the series. The last book of The Wheel Of Time should be release in the fall of 2011, two decades after the first book.

I know that George Martin is now 61 years old (he look's much older then he is) and that is still rather young. But he as mention it would be at least another 3 books and we have been waiting for 5 years now for A Dance Of Dragons

Yeah, I stopped reading WoT after the 7th or 8th book - they were simply taking too long and I was beginning to get lost (which rarely happens to me) - but after a while, there seemed to be little forward momentum in the storyline - so I figured I'd wait till he completed them all - sad when he passes away.

Yeah, at this rate, Martin won't finish these books. He doesn't look very healthy so I don't see good things happening with the future of this series. These are some of the best "fantasy" books I've ever read (although the last one was a bit of a let down) - I've been chomping at the bit for years now for DoD - I believe all my teeth are gone now and it's simply getting depressing now when I check his websites for updates and see that the last update was 2007.

So many epic moments. Love the dialouge.

I really hope the guy playing Tyrion can live up to the words on the page.

What am I saying, I hope they all can - I really don't see some of actors in these roles - but I'm rooting for them!

Yes I am rather please it's HBO and with a mini series of sort (12-14 episodes) It's not something that is made for regular TV

I agree. A miniseries will give ample time to tell the story, and not rush it. There is a lot going on in each of the books, and a miniseries (especially on HBO) will be able to tell the full story. Looking forward to this

Some scenes from the pilot will have to be reshot thanks to cast changes: HBO has confirmed that the role of an exiled noblewoman, Daenerys Targaryen, is being recast and Tamzin Merchant will not play that role in the series. In March it was announced that Jennifer Ehle has dropped out of the project and Michelle Fairley has taken over the role of noblewoman Catelyn Stark.
News about some recasting. I thought Tamzin Merchant would have been interesting to see as Daenerys, cause Tamzin was such a flake in The Tudors as Catherine Howard. I'm wondering how much was acting/the role.
