Default Game of Thrones on HBO

I don't know about anyone else, but I cannot wait for Game of Thrones to air on HBO in Spring 2011. Is there anybody out there as excited as I am? I couldn't seem to find any other thread on this topic. Has anyone else read the George RR Martin series, A Song of Ice and Fire? How do you think the show will hold up to the original material?

Lets discuss away!

I am also Highly looking forward to this. I have never read the books but the subject matter is very interesting to me.

The books are amazing, but are written in an unorthodox way. The traditional chapters are presented in a manner in which its more each character has their own chapters, and they kind of jump from character to character, once you get used to that, its just an amazing bit of fiction that G.R.R. Martin wrote.

He is so adept at bringing you into the universe he created, and writing characters that you love and hate with such ease its amazing. I cant recommend it enough.

Im a huge fan of the old Conan, Tolkien, and Drizzt, and Eragon books, but they have nothing on the Song of Ice and Fire series. I cant wait to see how the show goes.

I'd say it'd be even better if the series had a frakking end.

Hope he finishes! It is an excellent series, and I would like to see how it ends. I have high hopes for the HBO series, and look forward to watching it next Spring

I am looking forward to the series but I am remaining calm about it, in order not to be disapointed, TV as been doing this to me a lot in the last 10 years.

The books are some of the best I've read in the last 20 years. It's incredible to think I picked up the first book way back in 1997, time sure goes fast.

New preview for the show that aired last night. Looks awesome and can't wait for 2011. I just hope it does good for HBO.

Very interested to see how the show turns out - and whether people will embrace it.

Hope it's half as good as the books.

Yeah I really hope it does good and people watch it. Never read the books so I won't have anything to compare the series with. I heard the books are complicated to read though is that true?

Have you ever read the Lord of the Rings? If so, I'd say these are easily accessible.

He has a large cast and doesn't dumb down his character's dialouge.

The first book takes a while to get going - which worries me for the series. "A Game of Thrones" deals heavily in court intrigue. It really isn't until the end of the first book that all the chess pieces are set (or rather, thrown everywhere across the board) - and the stakes are raised for all. At the end of the 1st book - I had to rush out and get the second book - I was hooked.

To me, the books get exponentially better.

The second book was twice as good as the first book - and when I put down the third book - I thought to myself, "That was one of the best books I've read". The story had truly catapulted itself onto the next level.

Not sure what kind of books you've read - these are very heavy, political, viscious, and brutal stories. I was glad to see them brought to HBO so they won't have to be watered down.

My recommendation - give the first book a try - be prepared for a slow start. Think of the first book as setting the stage - but the end of it, when you see where the Game of Thrones has set everyone - I expect you'll be very excited to see what happens next.

OK cool I love LOTR but haven't read the books but I do love fantasy books so I will have to check them out soon.

Yeah I started watching the making of thing on HBO.com but stopped as I don't want to see to much before the show starts. Chances are it will be a special feature on the Blu-ray anyways.

Yeah I saw a 15 second promo with a crow flying and that's it, I don't wanna see anything, that way if I don't like it, I won't be let down.

Same the trailers look awesome! If they were smart they'd put this show (or one like it) on like right now when there is nothing that can compete with it as we have like a 4 week stretch of nothing.
