I will never play 100% catch-up. Every time I get a bunch of viewings from my collection done, I buy a bunch of new movies, It's hopeless.

I don't consider it hopeless, I consider it proper . If my unwatched shelf or my refrigerator is empty that would b a very bad sign. Both need to be full ready with consumables for when I want to use them

100% of my 4K's I've watched them all. Almost everyone multiple times too! Killer format!
5% left of regular 1080p disc Blu-Rays give or take left to watch. Some multiple times. Decent Format!
1-2% of my DVD's left to watch. Some multiple times. When you have no other option format!

By design I always have upwards of 400 Blu-ray titles I have yet to watch. My collection serves the same function as any given streaming service only I control what's available to watch and best of all, there's no strings attached, i.e. no Internet connection, no subscription fee, no deals to renegotiate in order to retain content, better quality audio and video, bonus content and so forth. That being said, I have watched every DVD that I own with probably a third or more of the titles I have yet to watch on Blu-ray being DVD's I've upgraded to Blu-ray.

I haven't watched every single one of my Blu-rays. And I don't keep a "to-watch pile". These days I tend to watch a particular movie when the mood strikes. Has nothing to do with when it was purchased. At least I finally have my collection well organized, so I can find any title easily. Before, it could become a mission trying to find a movie!

I think we all watch what we feel like when we feel like it. The reason I have a "to-watch pile" or "un-watched shelf"(like I call it) is part of being organized and not to force a particular movie. This way it is easy to know what I have not watched yet. But if I feel like watching X (a film I have seen before), I will watch X and if I don't have a particular film in mind but I don't feel like watching an un-watched I will go to the genre I want and pick a film I feel like watching.

Me, I keep track of movies that are in my collection but that I haven't actually sat down to watch by keeping them half-pulled out of my shelves. That way, they immediately pop out and cry "Watch Me!" when I'm trying to select a flick. When I finally do watch them, I push them all the way in.

Not a chance. I don't have a "to watch" pile, not a big one anyway. I might pull out a few movies I want to watch over the coming days, but even that'll change in those few days.

As for whether or not I eventually will watch all the BR's in my collection....gut instinct says no. I have plenty I'm not really enthusiastic about now. I've definitely bought movies where a year or more down the road I'm like "what was I thinking?"

When movie rental places near we went out of business I bought a lot simply because they had Blu Rays under $1.

Some of those I can't imagine ever watching. For example Magic Mike. Maybe it's a good movie but I have never been in the mood to watch it and I don't imagine I ever will be. I justify it with - Maybe someone else here wants to see it.

Never. Why would I ever watch the film version of Scenes from a Marriage when there is the television version?

My collection is really small, so I should have seen 100%, but I'm probably nearer 85-90% seen. It's always nice to have that unseen blu-ray as back-up in case nothing else interests me, but chances are I'm just too distracted by other films from my never-ending watchlist. :'D

I wish. The constant Dollar Tree drops really did me in, as well as buying some $300 worth of stuff every Black Friday and then just pushing it off to the side.

I am doing an 80s thing right now, a pet project, but probably about June/July, gonna pause that, and really focus on my unwatched pile. Its somewhere over 800 total movies, nearly 50 TV seasons. Its gonna take forever.

When I was organizing my movies the other night, I was surprised at how many of them were still in the wrapper.
"Why am I buying them if I'm not watching them", came to mind a few times.

Because you never know what may go out of print at any time. I've kicked myself a few times for passing up on a film then a month or two later I wanted to watch it but couldn't find it anywhere and found out it went out of print.

I probably have close to 60 or so. It's really bad! Those Criterion sales really contribute to my backlog.

I don't buy so many now I'm glad to say.

However, back then and sometimes even now occasionally I'll buy a film but then due to work and being too tired I don't get to watch it.

I had Black Raindow on DVD for a few years. When Arrow video released an upgrade to blu-ray I bought it but due to the above, and also I feel like you have to be in the mood for certain films, I didn't watch it for about a year.

Actually, I've spent more time recently catching up on unwatched films as I am trying to tidy up the collection and get rid of some. It's a small pile now. About seven now I think

I watch maybe one or two movies a month. I am so far behind. Maybe when I retire I will be able to catch up. Or, maybe I should just stop buying, But seriously I haven't purchased that many movies lately.

I do, I don't put them on my shelf until I have watched it first. Otherwise what's the point of buying them if you're not going to watch them?
