Ok boss u the most educated on civil movements, fighting for social justice, etc. Hopefully u put that to good use as you tell people how they should/shouldnt protest and what that form of protest can or cant accomplish.

My guess is the other bubble teams have already put in all this work to make the bubble work and want to finish what they started. They probably ganged up on the LA teams and told them to toe the line.

There's always opportunity for additional protests - the first round isn't even complete yet. So I interpret this as they'll continue the playoffs... for now.

Strategically, if the players want to maximize media exposure, they'll wait until the NBA finals. On Game One, come out to the court for pre-game rituals like they usually, and while the anthem is playing, collectively walk off the court, with no prior warning. Actually, it would even be better if both finals teams conspired to take the series to 7 games, then they do all the above on Game 7.

again, what exactly does this accomplish? are they looking to be dramatic/theatrical or are they actually looking to get something done?

Bucks contacted local officials, which is great, but boycotting/protesting has nothing to do with those actions.

so, the only way i see a boycott working is to say, Hey NBA/Owners...either contribute X amount of dollars, to whatever avenue they feel would most benefit from it, or we're not playing anymore...forcing the nba's hand to take action as they stand to lose a ton of money if no games are played. as do the players of course but sacrifices must be made in order to have real progress...

Well, yeah. I'm not sure things got resolved, but I think someone may have reminded players and teams alike how much money is at stake right now. I also think that an inner voice may have reminded LeBron that he's not getting any younger and that the championship windows is closing fast.

I wonder if someone got in his ear and said: “Jordan would have played.”

LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard expressed a desire to return home, sources said, but in Thursday’s meeting, James related that it was in the best interest of the players to finish what they started.

Anthony Davis was on board with whatever the players decided, sources said.

Players’ association executives Chris Paul and Andre Iguodala explained the financial ramifications of bailing on the season, detailing how the CBA could get torn up by the owners and place them in a position of decreased salaries moving forward, sources said.

Quote:
The playoffs came to a halt Wednesday afternoon when the Milwaukee Bucks refused to take the court in the aftermath of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Orlando Magic, their opponents, stood in solidarity with the Bucks and refused to play as well. All three games on Wednesday's schedule were canceled as the league's players wanted to take a stand against police brutality, with some wondering if they should cancel the remaining games. A vote was taken Thursday morning, with the players deciding that they would finish the season while also looking for more support from owners and the league with regard to lobbying politicians for change. Saturday's schedule will likely consist of the three games that were scheduled for Wednesday (Magic/Bucks, Thunder/Rockets and Trail Blazers/Clippers).

not worth expressing an opinion and joining discussion on complex issues when our resident Danish correspondent on US social issues labels you "racist" for wrongthink

Every story last night was ended with "LeBron walked out..." "sources close to LeBron say..." Hmm who could those sources possibly have been?

If the remaining teams wanted to continue playing, ok fine Clips and Lakers forfeit, Mavs and Blazers move on. I have no problem with that, no asterisk needed either because they are doing the socially conscious thing, for the greater good.
Except, this is one of LeBrons best chances for another ring, his legacy. He had no real intentions of giving that up. He can do both - continue the quest for a ring AND bring attention to civil rights. Won't be surprised if there are cameras filming this and a doc comes out. This is all commercialized and packaged for the consumer

that won't happen

which is funny because watching Twitter unravel last night everyone was saying "Kyrie was right", "Everyone owes Kyrie an apology" Huh? For what? Had the playoffs not been going on right now there wouldn't be this media focus and platform, the ability to strike/boycott/whatever they want to call it

Also, Tuesday night Chris Webber was trending, as usual, for his god awful commentary but 24 hrs later the same people are lauding him for his powerful speech. Fake a$$ people/fans.
Webber has and always be one of my favorite Kings, will forever be loved here in Sac. Yes I think he is not a great commentator BUT he has always, going back to his days and Michigan, Sacramento, been about civil rights and black issues. What he said WAS powerful. He has always been about the movement - he is not in it for the social media likes, attention, SJW game.

So no I don't want players to "shut up and dribble" but is it too much to ask that they be educated and nuanced on deeply rooted, societal/cultural issues, let all facts come out before yelling out catchphrases/hashtags? I get the anger, the emotion, the frustration but there is a middle ground here, a chance to bridge the divide but it gets lost in the screaming of both extreme fringes and then both sides will throw on you a label if you don't pick a team. Nothing will get accomplished this way, it definitely can be frustrating and sad but most of these extremes reside online, the media, social media.
