I don't know where people dream this sort of thing up. No consumer legislation anywhere in the world requires this. It's always replacement OR full refund. Of course a lot of places will hold back a bit of stock for replacements, but that's an attempt to maximise customer satisfaction, not an obligation.

Maybe there isn't such a law, but surely should be.
And, for what is worth it, if the shops would do as such, they would not only maximize the customer satisfaction, but they would also maximize the sales proven that they are serious and reliable.
This is what I learned the BIG Premium makers (as BluFans, Manta Lab, FilmArena, etc.) do.

1) You pre-order limited release steelbook that sells out
2) Item posted but hasn't arrived after 1.5-2 weeks
3) You contact Zavvi (who have spares in stock still) but tell you that you must wait another 2 weeks before they can act
4) Item still hasn't turned up after another 2 weeks so you report it
5) Zavvi say that they no longer have any left to send out as any reserves have already gone out to those who have received damaged products
6) You bang your head againt the desk, cry and accept a refund of half of what it's already going for on eBay...
I hear you, and I have to say I had exactly same happenings myself with Zavvi, which indeed made me mad and angry.

Yet, lately, very few (maybe one or two) items I've ordered from them, got lost in the mail (I never got them), let them know (after the 20 days they usually ask me to wait since dispatch notice), and then they shipped me another one, despite the fact their site shown those items as "sold out".

Now, if they just got back the item they shipped first time, or they didn't actually shipped at all in the first place (one time, some years ago, one of the response from them confirmed such thing, that the item never left the warehouse despite the dispatch notice was sent), or if they still had some pieces aside for such situations, I could not say for sure.

But certainly I got a second shipping and received it ultimately (I knew is the second, cause the labels always say "0,00 GBP/EUR" on them), even when the site stated "sold out" (again, this happened ONLY one or two times).

And one more case, which is not with Zavvi, but with Zoom, that happened just once, last year (2020), in October I placed an order (before Brexit), got the dispatch notice, never received the package (should had been quite big, having at least 10 items, among them, at least two were collections, so bigger than a single item), they told me the package returned to them and shipped a second time, one month apart (so November this time), and this one also never come, and I just got an refund two weeks ago, after contacted them knowing that they changed owners.
BTW, in the name of... what is happening now with Zoom.co.uk? Seems that there you can't actually purchase ANYTHING AT ALL now.

This is all conjecture as many have pointed out. The fact remains that Zavvi is a business and they will retain customer satisfaction where they can.

Of course that won't stop people from complaining, but there really isn't a better solution other than ordering early.

They could improve their customer service, but they have gotten a lot better in the past five years. Of course YMMV.

Speaking of lost packages, I haven't had a single one lost for 3-4 years regularly buying steels, but now I have 4 orders from them missing, and they are missing for 2 weeks up to 1 month after their estimated delivery date. Shipped to Germany. 2 other orders arrived last month near their estimated delivery dates. I am on edge about the whole thing, and their Twitter support has been extremely unresponsive, which was very different in the past.

They claim they cover all customs from their end, but I can't stop thinking customs must be the reason why these packages are so damn late (hopefully not lost, as all are OOS....). Everything after Brexit was a nightmare, but this is really something else.

Hey, m3inity!

I would strongly recommend that you go on Zavvi's site and use the "Chat" function they have available.

It's not always available, so you may need to visit the site a couple of times during the day, but if you can chat with one of their agents, they've been pretty good with helping out.

Anyways, I hope everything works out for you!

Default how many days?

Hey guys. Just wondering how many days Zavvi wants us to wait before we report not receiving a shipment...is it 20 days past the shipped date or 30 days?

They've always told me thirty days on my end.

However, 15% off is unacceptable.
Same here only with over 200 steels and no damage except Solo (which was obviously a factory problem).
I turned down the 15% and asked for a replacement and they agreed but their computer screwed up and gave me a refund by which time no more replacements were available.
In the end (after 2-3 weeks of battling; thank goodness for the hotel Wi-fi whilst I was on holiday!) I pushed and pushed and got the full refund they had already given me, 10 'sorry' and 10% off my next order (which yes I made over 200 so I could make up for the eBay price I had to pay to get a good one).

The small partial refund or eventual replacement is OK for non-limited and non-steelbook items but my problem (especially when they are often the only exclusive steelbook for the UK) is that they don't adapt the rules or keep extra contingency for specialist items and if they are lost in the postfor example, by the time they will act, the item is out of stock never to be back.

Yep; much more useful than the 'message by message' comms (which pretends to be a person but is actually a stock phrase response). I actually chatted to one who admitted they knew their own CS had a crap reputation but couldn't convince higher ups of the problems on the ground.

In the future, giving someone more than 12 minutes to reply would be nice.

At any rate, if it's a repackage of this disc, it'll be Region A/B locked. If it's a new disc, we won't know until someone has it in hard. Zavvi will typically list discs as Region B as a precaution since they're based in the UK.

Lol, it wasn't like that. I've never posted on here before and I had failed errors on uploading pics to a steelbook forum, I couldn't find my initial post and figured it didn't go through so I posted again . And alright, thanks for the info. Guess I'll find out haha

We're 14 days after dispatch of the Mondo Blade Runner 2049 steelbook from Zavvi and the item still hasn't arrived. Wish me luck, as I'm well aware that I'm about to get shafted (both from Zavvi and also from the second-hand market).

As I get more into collecting steelbooks, I wonder how common is it for pre-orders to sell out? I was interested in collecting the sci-fi destinations series (yeah yeah, not everyone's cup of tea, I know) but Blade Runner is gone before it arrived. It's a bit of a turn off for buying the others.

Is this an anomaly, or am I going to encounter this often if I don't pre-order instantly?

It depends on the title. Some sell out quickly, others hang around for a while. I didn't expect the BR one to sell out so quickly since the others in the series are still around, but it must've went only a few hours after I placed mine. FNAC apparently has the same steelbook still in stock if it helps: https://www.fnac.com/a15822636/Blade...ord-Blu-ray-4K

Blade Runner probably sold out quickly because it has a 4K disc. The rest of the titles in this wave so far have been Blu-ray only I believe.

Thankfully got my refund from Zavvi and managed to sneak an order in with FNAC before they went out of stock. Phew.

Does zavvi usually ships in-stock items separately if you also have a pre-order in the order? I don't see an option when you place to order to make this happen.
