Default Monsters: Complete Series coming to DVD

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00GSMZ3I8/

Finally this TV classic is coming to DVD. Ever since Tales from the Darkside came out on DVD I've been waiting for Monsters to come out.

I'm a fan, but I'm not exactly enthused by the 89.99 price tag. Especially since the set is coming from a small company (E1 Entertainment) and has the whole 72 episode series crammed onto 9 discs, with zero supplements. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have the complete series on DVD finally, but I'm not going to put out 90 bucks for it.

It's not a travesty like the DVD release of The Ray Bradbury Theater with 65 episodes sharing five discs. I can live with a low-budget, video-sourced 80s anthology show being spread across nine discs; Tales from the Darkside had about eight episodes per disc and their original cumulative price tags were comparable to what this set will be going for out of the gate.

Nothing wrong with E1, I have some of there releases and they are great.

9 discs is plenty for 72 24-26min episodes. 8 episodes on a DVD-9 will fit with room to spare.

If the seasons where released individually then they probably would cost in the $35 range, so $90 is not a bad price, plus I'm sure the price will lower with time.

Glad to this is finally available. I'm hoping to see Freddy's Nightmares soon. I'm sure we'll see price drops soon enough.

I'm interested, but the price is going to have to come down to earth.

Got my set in the other day. Paid $65 for it on eBay. It may have been expensive, but who knows how long this will be available. One of my favorite shows when I was a kid. The best part about this set is that eOne went back to the master tapes and all the episodes look great for their age. Also, the episode "Stressed Environment" is uncensored as there is a brief shot of some side boob that is blurred out in the syndicated episodes that air on Chiller.

Interesting - Monsters was completely under my radar when it came out; I don't remember seeing any episodes or even being aware of the show - maybe it was on at odd hours, like Tales from the Darkside & the later seasons of the '80's Twilight Zone - I was a huge fan of both of these shows (though I saw most of the episodes on DVD). I may be interested in getting the set, however, since I do like '80's anthology fantasy/horror shows...

Also, this release & the recent L.A. Law Season 1 DVD release shows that regular DVD's are still going strong - neither of these sets are being released on Blu at this time; of course, it's arguable that they probably wouldn't look much better on Blu anyway, since my understanding is that many '80's shows were shot on video...

Good to know - Thanks. In any case, the PQ on many TV shows from the '80's (that I've seen on DVD) is, overall, somewhat sub-par. It's got a "soft" quality that seems only slightly better than the PQ on an old VHS tape. Examples of this are: Perfect Strangers, Tales from the Darkside, the '80's Twilight Zone...Note I don't mind this too much, since it's somewhat nostalgic and reminds me of watching these show on TV back in the day - So, I don't want the picture to look too good; conversely, when I watch a film I want the PQ to look perfect...

My point is that I'm not sure how much improvement can be made for a Blu release re: these shows...

Just dropped to $42 on Amazon. Might have to finally pull the trigger.

The Hole is probably my favorite episode.

Yeah it's definitely an 80's classic cheese fest. I love it to death!

Probably gonna bite the bullet and pick this up along with the tales from the darkside complete series, which is currently sitting at $50.

Just got the complete series as a christmas gift. Best present of the year. Im a big sucker for these old horror anthology shows and the boxset for 'Monsters' was pleasantly surprising, the episodes look very good i don't know how extensive of a remaster this show got but it is definitely loads better than the Tales From The Darkside and 80's Twilight Zone dvds.

Wal-Mart.com is showing $49.96 + shipping. I paid about $70 when it first came out, so that seems like a pretty good deal.
