I'd even argue there's a good chance we'll see the character in costume on a regular basis, should be funny seeing how much her cousin is on the show though.

I guess it depends if Superman is already established, or if he is still the "red blue blur"..?

Well it's going to be on CBS and it's not Laura Vandervoort so I doubt any of the Smallville continuity will carry over here at all.

I'm all for a solo "Supergirl" show, but I doubt it will work without bringing Superman in at least once every year. For one thing, I don't recall Kara ever having her own rogues gallery; she was always up against the same ones as Clark. Together, they fought the likes of Darkseid, Bizarro, Metallo, Brainiac, Mr. Mxyzptlk, etc...but apart? Berlanti and company will have to work very hard on this show, for it to stand by itself.

It would be great if they'd tie it in with "Man of Steel", having Henry Cavill or Amy Adams show up for one episode.

Keeping it simple I think it will work, hope the producers and writers don't get crazy with other heroes dropping in...

If I had to guess, it will focus on her Kryptonian origins and yes I think Superman will be on it a decent amount but mostly as a recurring guest star. There's enough villains in the DC rogues gallery, even for an army of Kryptonians.

They're deviating from the comic origin story:

Same person who cast Amell and Gustin will be in charge of casting Supergirl.

Supergirl in the Arrowverse!

Quote:
Later in the afternoon at his other office on the Warner Bros. lot, Berlanti meets with fellow producer Ali Adler and Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood to go over looks for their upcoming revamp of Supergirl. The show will follow 24-year-old Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, and with a twist that that could melt fanboy brains, Berlanti says it's possible this Supergirl could enter the worlds of Arrow and The Flash.

Nice move, expanding their TV universe again. Its also somewhat risky though, since "The Flash" is still in its first year.

Since CBS is a part-owner of the CW... I could see how they could arrange a crossover with the shows on that network more easily than is usually possible across different networks.

I believe Yvonne Strahovski is signed on for a new show by the creators of Chuck so I doubt it would ever happen. Plus I have a feeling the Supergirl character would be in her early 20s.

I would like that. I don't have any problem with DC separating the TV and Movie universe or if some of the TV shows don't cross over (right now I prefer the connected way Marvel does it). But if they are going to separate them no superhero should be off limits Batman or Superman should be able to appear or Flash or Green Arrow to appear in non connected TV shows as well.

What made that scene with Kara in the bikini work so well wasn't just her wearing it. It was the genuine confusion she had about why clothes were necessary, combined with Clark's obvious discomfort and Lana smiling in the background.

Wish they would have done more with Kara on Smallville.

A lot of people have that same wish, including Laura Vandervoort herself. She told me at a convention appearance last year, that she really wanted to be part of the series' finale, but was written out with the Legion Ring story. She didn't say this next part, but my own theory is that Kara might've been removed to make room for Lex's cameo (Rosenbaum literally called the producers at the last moment).
