Back when I was a wee lad in the early 60s, Supergirl was one of my favorites. I always liked the female DC heroes, but Supergirl more than the others. I can remember thinking even as a 10-year-old, "She's a 13-year-old girl who can do everything that Superman can; how cool is that?" Of course, she was never really written to be on that level until about the early 80s, but I still believed it.

I was thinking... if they really wanted to have some fun... have it be Supergirl BUT she is in an alternate universe where there is no Superman... so she is Supergirl from a Superman universe but somehow is transported to a different universe where he doesn't exist. That way they acknowledge the ties to Superman and never have to mention him again.

IF they did something like that, they could have her be familiar with characters like the Flash and Arrow, just not these versions of those characters.

They could even bring in Vandervoort if they wanted!

Not sure who she is but let's see how this turns out.

Laura's doing a Canadian show called "Bitten" now; she wouldn't be available to reprise the role.

Claire is someone I know from watching Originals and the Vampire Diaries, I think she's a good choice.

I realize they are likely not going to revisit Laura in reality... but that wouldn't be the reason.

These shows are often shot in Canada... Smallville was... and Bitten is a half-season show (13 episodes I believe) so no reason she couldn't do two things.

But she is probably too old now for what they want to do with the new series... not that she's even too old for the part, but they usually like to cast younger I think.

Even though Bitten is a 13-episode per year series, if Supergirl was successful enough to get a full 22-episode season, that would mean -- between the two shows -- LV would be doing 35 episodes a year as a lead. That would be an exhausting schedule! And that would be assuming that the two production companies could come up with a mutually beneficial production schedule (and neither company fell behind on shooting).

At best, LV might be worked in as an occasional guest star -- like David Ramsey, who still appears in a couple of episodes per season of Blue Bloods as the NYC Mayor while being a regular on Arrow.

I had no idea Ramsey was still on "Blue Bloods". I thought they wrote him out so he could take the offer for "Arrow".

Yeah I think he was written out. Last time I saw him on Blue Bloods was last year.

Me too!

Although I worry somewhat that this would interfere with her playing that character as it's an on-going role. She could do both in theory but... hmmm... at any rate, if she is cast as Supergirl I have complete faith in her.

When his character got shot and ended up in a wheelchair a couple of seasons back, it seemed like an opportunity to write him out of the show, but I was rather surprised when he continued to show up.

He was in five episodes of the third season (which corresponds with Arrow Season 1), two episodes of the fourth season (which corresponds with Arrow Season 2), and so far, he was in this season's premiere episode (with no indication that it's his last).

The first posting in the Arrow thread reads:

Quote:
Smallville has opened the door to a new show that will eventually get canceled because people cannot handle anything from DC besides Superman and Batman.

This show looks pretty good but I don't see it lasting more than a few episodes.
I'm sure that the programming departments of the networks would love to be able to accurately predict which shows would get cancelled early and which shows would last a while. It would certainly make their jobs a hell of a lot easier.

Wow...I've really been slipping on the show, then. I've never been a regular viewer of the live airings, mostly just DVDs and reruns on the Ion channel.

Claire Holt isn't a bad choice but she would have to seriously work on her accent. I've never heard her speak with anything but an accent. Unless Krypton is recast as a lost colony of Australia.

There's always the Marlin Brando school of aliens... Remember the infamous quote of Brando from the set of Superman 1978? Where he thought he could do the role off camera because who knows what a Kryptonian looks like?

Maybe they speak Australian too... who knows!
