I think Joel Hodgson said they were keeping the list of titles secret until the episodes are released, so as to maximize the surprise factor.

A few glimpses seem to appear in the trailer but I didn't recognize what movies they might be.

Reptilicus is the first episode. The rest are still under wraps.

There is a leaked list of the 14 movies floating around online but it has not been verified.

Hopefully this thread really comes alive tomorrow. At 12:01am Pacific Friday on Netflix, this new season launches!

I just finished downloading the episodes (Kickstarter backers were given access to stream and download the episodes early). I've already watched a couple and they've nailed it.

Now to wait for the Blu-Ray copy...

I can verify that the leaked list is correct. I'm a backer. So far, I've watched the first 3 episodes of the new season, and I can also say that they did not screw it up, in fact, they got it just right.

Everything is new, but it's also true to the feel of the original. One thing that everyone comments on is that the riffs on the new season flow very quickly, and they're pretty much non-stop. Some view this as a negative, but I see it as filling in the dead spots, which were frequent in the early years.

I really thought going into it I wouldn't like the new host, Jonah Ray, based on his standup and podcasts that I'd seen. Fortunately I was wrong. He really works well, landing in between Joel and Mike on the sarcasm scale.

The most important thing is that the writing itself is as good or better than its ever been. It's damn funny. The sets and the models maintain the low budget aesthetic, but everything is just a little more detailed, especially now that the whole show is in HD. Seriously check this out on Netflix when you get a chance.

Honestly, even if there's one cast member you absolutely cannot stand, I still recommend checking it out, because everything else is great. If you like the premise of the show, you owe it to yourself not to miss it. Personally, I was never a Pearl fan, and every one of the Pearl/BoBo/Brainguy skits just did not do it for me, so I skipped those parts, and watched Mike and the bots.

Are all of the episodes going to be released today, or just the first? I must know so I can plan my weekend accordingly.

EDIT: I have my answer.

Also, as it stands, episodes besides Reptilicus seem to include Wizards of the Lost Kingdom 1 & 2, At the Earth's Core, Avalanche!, and Starcrash amongst others.

So far, I've seen the first episode and I loved it!

The riffs are really strong, and the host segments are a lot of fun. It's a pitch-perfect continuation of the series. It's updated, but in keeping with the classic style and approach.

Can't wait to watch more, but my wife's asleep (damn lightweight), and I'll be watching them with her.

I "know" I can binge the episodes on Netflix now, but this feels like it has to be savored. I can't be the only one spacing them out to one a week, just like in ye olden days on SciFi, right?

Right?

Anyone care to post a movie list? Even the Netflix queue only has synopses, not titles. Is it some kind of f**king state secret what movies they're riffing?

That's what I'm doing. No set schedule, but certainly not binging.

What I'm hoping for: More of an edge than the old show. They shouldn't hesitate to be "mean" or (God forbid) un-PC. They should at least update their pop culture references; no more digs on celebrities from the 1940s that no one knows or cares about.

That's what I'm doing as well. These episodes are movie length, I could never binge that.

I'm glad that you brought up the writing. The head writer is Elliot Kalan, who has won several Emmys for his work on The Daily Show and possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of film. He, along with another Daily Show writer and their bartender pal (who might be the funniest person ever not involved in comedy) have a fantastic podcast about bad movies called The Flophouse, which sadly and undeservingly lives under the shadow of the much-less funny How Did This Get Made. I can't recommend it enough.

In a recent interview I read, Joel said contentwise they don't intend to be any edgier than the old show was, despite the fact they could get away with pretty much anything being on Netflix, because he wants it to remain a family-friendly show.

RiffTrax can be more "adult", so that's a good alternative if you're looking for something that goes a little further. I love Joel's approach of being more accessible to everyone. But I love RiffTrax too.

Yes, this is on Netflix today! Spread the word!

Joel gave Kalan big props as well for his contributions to the show. I'm feeling really good right now about the prospects for future seasons, and really glad that I shelled out to help keep this thing going.
