Will be fantastic to see Jean-Luc again.

As long as it's not set your phasers to dumb.

I think this could be an interesting vehicle for Picard, especially if they decide to revisit his interest in archaeology. Take the beginning of Rascals for instance (yeah, I know it's a lame episode but gimmie a sec) you can see how he just lets loose going into the little pieces of pottery to the point where Guinan has to reel him back in. That Picard could make for a good ambassador character and perhaps more of a "strange new worlds" series if they wanted to go that way. Maybe have Picard visit a planet where there's a more unique problem amongst the populace that someone with his experience might be able to help with or analyze (in the case of past problems).

Of course, I'd also like some little cameos here and there. Certain ageless characters might be too old to appear, but other characters could pop in.
Donít do IT!

I take it to mean just don't expect to see a retread of TNG. This Picard is going to be nearly twenty years older than he was the last time we saw him. He likely won't be a captain anymore, possibly not in command of any starship. He could be an admiral instead, maybe even an ambassador, which could take the show more into the political realm of Star Trek than the exploratory side, which was always equally as fascinating. Picard will have likely since moved on to other things. I'm very curious to see what they come up with. There's still a lot of possibilities for the character at this stage in his life.

I think he means Data, though I wish he'd just say Data instead of being so coy about something that apparently pissed off so many people (I remember more of a resounding "meh" to Nemesis rather than foaming nerdrage, but whatever).

If you read Countdown, the tie-in to ST'09, it deals with quite a few questions as to who's done what since Nemesis. The Remans even appear in it so it's very much a belated coda to Nemesis as well as a lead-in to ST '09 and I likes it quite a bit.

Not sure if this is considered spoiler territory or not, so to be safe I will tag it.

[Show spoiler]At the end of Nemesis, Data gives Picard his auto-transporter and stays behind on the ship (can't remember the name) as it blows, dying. The movie ends with Picard and B-4 having a chat, and B-4 humming a tune Data had been playing earlier, implying that the info-dump he performed earlier in the movie (a rehash of Spock's mind meld from Khan) had taken hold, meaning Data is still possibly "alive".

I looked this part up so I wouldn't tell you the wrong thing. The tie-in comic "Countdown" for the 09 movie had Data as the captain of the Enterprise-E, apparently having successfully overtaken B-4's programming (so much for "Measure of a Man" and all...), and Jean-Luc having retired as Federation ambassador to Vulcan.

From what I remember of Nemesis (I try not to watch that one, it's meh) B-4 was an inferior mess. So I don't know if Data took some of Lore's parts or what. I guess there are some other books that cover this. The tie-in comic is not completely canon but it's pretty darn close.

Sorry, I know it's old hat by now but I didn't know if people might still be spoiled by it.

This is fantastic news! I just hope he isn't an ambassador overlooking missions by others. I would want him trekking Alpha quadrant and beyond to make first contact and also settling disputes between Alien races, more Borg encounters, run-ins with Q...Oh so much to hope and dream for

If people have come this far to be excited by a Captain Picard series then it's a good bet they'll know how his last on-screen appearance and relevant events played out.

I can't wait. As long as it makes people forget STD then yes...

Also there are any number of things he could be. Ambassador, President of UFP, Commandant of Starfleet Academy.

To the Data thing.

[Show spoiler]irrc there is a book that also goes into detail about how Starfleet decided to redownload Data's memories into B4. I can't recall if it is explained in the cross over comic or not. Also Data is Captain of the Enterprise E as well.

Should be noted that they can do anything they want in Star Trek books and comics (see for instance, Janeway becoming the new Borg queen...) as unlike Star Wars, they aren't cannon and aren't really overseen by anybody.

Series wise, I'm excited. It's pure fan service to bring Picard back but as long as it makes sense in the show Im all for it. Hopefully we can get everybody else to at least make guest appearances, it's not like they are busy or anything.

They should set it in the Mirror Universe where Picard is all ripped and spends his free time lifting.

Star Trek the Next Generation should have ended with the crew completing their journey not still voyaging through space.
