The 3070 arrived last week (which is a MSI Gaming X Trio model). I almost missed the delivery on it when I saw the FedEx guy come up to my door, who I ignored at first because A) I was on a conference call, and B) I assumed it was just a typical delivery for my wife's business, and C) I completely forgot I had a GPU on the way lol.

Anyway, so far I've only gotten a moderate performance boost over the 2060 Super, but based on my MSI/RivaTuner stats it's evident I need a processor upgrade. But my numbers are at least on par with FPS numbers I've seen in YouTube videos, which is an indication that I didn't blunder anything (like with my XMP and CPU profiles). So this morning I grabbed a Ryzen 5 5600X. It'll just be a drop-in upgrade for now. I'll see if it plays well with my current board & RAM which is currently powered by a Ryzen 5 2600. From what I've read the 5600x should be a significant performance boost over the 2600.

Yeah you're about to have a beast of a gaming PC. Ive been looking to upgrade from my ryzen 3600 to the 5600x but idk if its worth it or not.

A new GeForce Game Ready driver just came out in the last few hours. It's got some more R-Bar support and new monitors for G-Sync.

I hear ya, I'd be contemplating if it'd be worth it if I had a 3600. Too close in family.

I actually almost went with a 5800X being that I couldn't find any 5600X in stock online that wasn't marked up or from a reputable source, but to my surprise Microcenter had them in stock in-store at "normal" price. Glad that worked out, the 5800X doesn't look like it's worth it over the 5600X for gaming. Still haven't popped it in yet, though. Hopefully tonight.

Got the 5600X installed last night and did some testing in Cyberpunk. On Ultra settings with Ray Tracing Medium + DLSS Quality, I'm hitting about 48 FPS average. I was hoping for a bit more, but that is also at 3840 x 1080. At 2560 x 1440 (on my 4k UHD TV), it's hitting the 60 fps sweet-spot. However, I prefer to play on the 3840 x 1080 display at 144 Hz, and with Ray Tracing disabled and DLSS Quality it hits low-to-mid 80s, and the high refresh really smooths out the game play. At 2560 x 1440 and RT off + DLSS Quality, it's hitting low to mid 90s, still on Ultra settings.

My preference is still my 3840 x 1080 display for the higher refresh, and since the game still looks excellent on Ultra with RT disabled, getting that 80+ frames is the sweet-spot for me. Also, the 3070 is maxing out at 100% usage so it's evident it is now the bottleneck after popping in the 5600X. I looked up some YouTube videos which corroborate my results.

I also played some Destiny 2 since it's a pretty well optimized game, and at 3840 x 1080 I'm hitting low 100s in wide open areas and 115-130 in closed areas, both while in combat and maxed out settings. At 1440, it's in the 130-150s in open areas, and in closed areas a whopping 150-180. But again, I prefer the super ultra wide monitor for the higher refresh, which is just beautiful in Destiny 2 - but too bad I've lost interest in that game. Note that I forgot to turn on Fullscreen for D2 so this was all in Borderless - Windowed. And in that regard, I always preferred borderless because it's so easy to alt+tab out of the game as fullscreen was a tad slower before. Not the case anymore, alt+tabing is super zippy now in Fullscreen, even with Cyberpunk.

I'm more than happy with this upgrade, enough so that I may forego a 3080 if they ever become available. But who knows, maybe I'll get a call from B&H soon on one of my 3080 reservations. Sigh..

Over the weekend I enabled resizable on my rig. Which is a 3060ti and a R5 3600. Really liking the results I'm seeing. 1% min framerate seems much higher on almost all games. Makes stutters/hitches significantly less annoying. Would reccomend going throgh the process wof enabling resizable bar henever you guys have time.

Well schidt. Grabbed the latest driver and installed it, already had the resizable bar feature in the BIOS from when I flashed the FW for the 5600X install, so I then loaded my MB utility to update the VBIOS on the 3070. It seemed to finish up fine and started the reboot process as it should. The screen goes dark like it was restarting, and then nothing. Not a frickin' thing. CPU fan is spinning, fan lights are on and spinning, GPU lights are on, but no POST or HD light blinking. What stinks is normally I wouldn't flash within the OS, but MSI only offered this update from within the windows-based software utility so I figured what the heck. I'll try clearing the CMOS later, but man I hope all is ok.

Not only that but the manufactures have themselves now gotten into the price gouging game. 6 year old cards selling for 20-30% increase in price from when it sold brand new a half decade ago. All cards have seen consistent price increases from major brand makers never mind the scalpers buying up and sitting on product driving market prices.

This has been a great week for owning one of the new cards. The early part of the year was quiet but RE8 and Metro Exodus Enhanced really push the 3080 and feel like a real step up from most of what we saw last gen.

I'm always behind on times (work/family life) and didn't know these were releasing this week. So I go to Steam, and being the that I am, I buy Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced and Outward instead for dirt cheap.

I'm sure they'll make my 3070 look really good!
