I'll second giving it another watch. I was pretty bored with it the first time as well, but saw it again later, and really liked it.

I'm also going through a concert phase... if you count the last few BDs I bought being music ones a phase. And I plan on getting another shortly.

Cool

I did blind buys on my last six titles

Body of Lies, Boondock Saints, Let The Right One In, Pride and Glory, Quarantine, and Watchmen motion comic

I enjoyed every one of them, but its because of this site's info and word of mouth I blind buy so often. So far I haven't been too disappointed

It costs too much for today's economy - hard to take chances with $25 or more.

I've blind bought every now and then. I'll be blind buying Quantum of Solace and Bold this month...almost want to blind buy Role Models, but I'll probably Netflix that one.

I do a little of word of mouth/good deal for both blus and DVDs, sometimes both in the same go. Example: Buying Some Like it Hot, the collector's edition for 5 dollars on DVD at Zellers 3 years ago.

My first blu was a blind buy, The Princess and the Frog, because Disney had the combo pack coupon.

I blind-buy movies practically all the time. Reasons being...
  • Heard nothing but good things. Or maybe it's a familiar-sounding title.
  • Comes from a filmmaker (or maybe an actor or studio) I like.
  • Comes from a distributor I like (such as the Criterion Collection).
  • Comes as a high-quality Blu-Ray, or has really good packaging.
  • Has a promising-looking cover or write-up on the back.
The extent to which all of these rules apply also depends on the price. If a movie's less than $5, I might just grab any ol' thing. I blind-buy most good or reputable movies priced $15 or less. If it's more than $20, then it'd have to be something really promising.

I think the most I ever spent on a blind-buy was $50, for the "Inception" briefcase edition. It fulfilled all of the above criteria, and was worth it.

Now, I promised myself that I'd never blind-buy anything over $30 again.

I blind buy a decent amount because I almost never go to the movies nowadays. The last movie I saw in the theater was Toy Story 3 and that was mainly because I had a free ticket, but I might go to Scream 4 this weekend. I will be blind buying the new Harry Potter sometime this weekend. I usually stick with well-reviewed movies for blind buys.

I'd say at least just over 50% of my collection is blind buys.

Same here, probably even higher than 50% for me. I have found many films, even some of my now favorites because I decided to blind buy them.

of my 122 blu-rays, 56 are blind buys. what is that, like 45% of my collection?

my most expensive blind buy was $57.99 for Apocalypse Now Full Disclosure Edition and was definitely worth the price and am damn glad i bought it

i don't go to the theatre and i hate renting, so blind buying is really my only option, and i generally wait until blus hit $10 or so to buy them. sure, a few i blind buy day 1 for specific reasons (Black Swan - Natalie Portman, Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors) but most i wait because $10 isn't too much spent in the event i don't love it / really like it.

I blind buy all the time. Just did it today with "The Man From Nowhere". Never heard of that movie until I saw it on the latest price drops on the top of this forum.

75% of my blu purchases are blind buys and I've been lucky. Only "bad" blind buy to date is The Secretary. Wasn't impressed with it all.

In the grand scheme of things, blind-buying a movie is less of a risk than going out to see a movie in the theater. If we are going just off of price alone, considering admission for two adults, the drive to the theater, and of course if you buy anything to eat there, you're into that movie for a good $30 right off the bat; that's money you will never get back. Plus when you go to the theater to watch a movie, you are technically blind-buying anyway — and you're not getting a copy of the movie.

When you buy a physical movie, you will likely spend less than $30 (if you spend more than that on a single, non-special edition title, come talk to me because you have a lot to learn about Internet shopping), and the time it takes to purchase is just a few minutes and can be done from your sofa or even iPhone. It doesn't really get more convenient.

The downside is you don't get to see it when it's out for the first time, and if it's "one of those movies" you may miss out on the buzz, which admittedly CAN add to the enjoyment of a movie theater movie. Too much buzz can also KILL a movie theater experience, though: "Oh, this movie is so awesome you just HAVE TO GO SEE IT IN THE THEATER!" That is a recipe for a letdown if ever I've seen one. With purchased movies, even if it totally sucks, then at least you spent less money on it, didn't waste time (and like our family, the effort to arrange a baby sitter), and at the end of the day you could probably sell it for a least a few bucks after you watched it. None of that is possible with a movie theater movie.

That's not to say that going out to the movies is valueless, though. My wife and I like to do this on occasion, but due to our insane family schedule that's just not feasible or readily available. If movie admission was about half of what it currently is, I would have a much weaker argument. Even in that case, a decent argument could still be made.

I know this post is like 2 years old---but I agree---now especially with the price on blu-rays at almost $5-$10---if you even rent a movie its only a few dollars more to buy it now---and going to the movies is way more expensive.

I blind buy-ALL THE TIME.

I blind buy regularly, and have ever since I started my Blu-ray collection.

Of my 437 movies, 167 are blind buys.

Pretty much all the time, and there's only a couple movies in my collection I don't really like. Quite happy with my decisions so far.

Not often. For years my mate had always been saying how Enemy of the State is very underrated, so two weeks ago I picked it up along with The Strangers (both blind buys) and both are very good shows. I really enjoyed Enemy of the State. Indeed underrated.
