Default Blu-ray compatibility issues???

So, I'm coming up clueless here. I just bought a Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player and when I try to hook it up to my Magnavox 37MF231D/37 using the HDMI out I just get static/noise. The intro screen with the Blu-ray logo comes on and then static. I used component cables and those work fine. When I go into the output settings on the Blu-ray the option for HDMI is grayed out and not selectable.

I tried the Blu-ray player on a friend's tv and it worked fine. I have a normal upscaling DVD player with an HDMI out that I can connect to my tv and that works fine. So I've basically ruled out the cables, the player itself (as it works on a friend's tv) and the HDMI port on the tv (as it works with my upscaling normal DVD player).

Is there any reason why this wouldn't be compatible with a Sony Blu-ray player???

does your Bluray player have a 1080p/24 Hz (or fps?), try turning that off.

(use only 720p/1080i)

do you still have component cables connected at the same time?

Yes, the component cables are still connected. Unfortunately, because of the static on the screen, I can't see anything to adjust settings when the HDMI is just hooked up.

For some reason I think it has something to do with the HDCP. My tv is compatible, but is there a way that this somehow got disabled or turned off?

disconnect your component cables. Only have HDMI connected.

I connected it to component only to try and change the output resolution. Then when I switch over to HDMI it still doesn't work. I can't change anything in the menu with the HDMI connected because I can't see anything...

I really think it has to do with HDCP as I believe I've seen something about it flash on my screen a few times awhile ago, but I can't remember exactly what it said and I never had problems with my normal dvd player.
