Panasonic 820.
UHD BD is region free anyway (for UHD BDs, not standard BDs). |

For standard Blu Regions A, B, and C, as well as UHD which is region-free anyway, the Pana 820. If you can afford it, go with Reavon X100 ($899) or X110 ($999). I'm ordering my X110 from Robert Zohn's two weeks from today. The Reavons are extraordinary, high end players! It will be perfect right below my Pana UB9000.

I've paired the C8 with the following players:
If you can only choose one player, my advice would be a Pana 820 that has been modded to play multi-region Blu-ray Discs. The Pana will play some, but not all, Region B discs using a menu combo prior to play. Fine to fool around and find out, not if you have or intend to have a multi-region library. If you want to save a few dollars, sure, you can choose a Sony X800 or X700 that has also been modded, but I don't recommend either player. You may get lucky and not experience freezing due to an inherent design flaw, but even so, the added price differential for the 820 is worth the money for UHD DV playback, software interface, playback customization and overall reliability and usage. The only advantage a Sony will offer of note is DVD playback quality, which is the other reason I have the two multi-region Sony players as second players to each main Panny. The LG UBK90 is a solid player, more reliable than the Sony, no issues with 100GB discs, and offers DV auto switching for about US $150 dollars. It's slow, the IR for the remote is weak, the interface is straight from 2007, but like I said, it works, and is still working paired to a computer monitor. None of the these players are worth a buck for streaming. You are much better off with the onboard TV apps or as I have, a dedicated streamer (Apple TV 4K). Good luck! |
