Thanks, kmhofmann, for answering T4ffer! I should also add: When I said upthread that the BFI release of EO may be preferable to Criterion, compression was not the only factor I considered. Criterion is also suspected of sometimes manipulating the contrast of a master they are supplied with. Off the top of my head, Fellini's Nights of Cabiria may be one example, where Criterion and StudioCanal's pictures differ even though they are from the same restoration. BFI/Eureka/Arrow/StudioCanal are more likely to leave a good master alone and pass that straight to the authoring house.
