Does anyone else use Vivid mode? I thought I was the only one who was told to stay away from it at all costs...

I should've posted this here:
So I'm new to the world of Blu ray. I have a KDL-40V2500 & a PS3. Now I was hesitant to get any HD stuff until I saw what trued HD looked like. Best Buy had Pirates 2 playing on blu ray on an HDTV & man it looked amazing. You know the look. No blurs when there is a pan. That look that you feel like you could reach in & touch the characters. But I just got Pirates 2 on blu ray & it does not look the same.In fact the few Blu rays I own (Blade Runner,There Will Be Blood & Nine Inch Nails) only one(NIN) looks outstanding. So I asked around & I got this response "At the stores, they set up TVs in such a way that the picture looks better than the standard settings -- not sure what they put the brightness and contrast at, for example. It's not the cables, but more likely the brand of television (and its contrast capabilities -- ability to show shades of black) and the settings it it set at right now. Check out the internet and look up settings for your model of television. I bet you'll find some home theater forum sites that will help you out. " So I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but what's the best setup on the Custom setting for....well,everything (color, contrast, brightness, gamma) etc. I'd really appreciate the help since I'm no technophile & have no idea what to do. KDL-40V2500 PS3 Connected via HDMI The room is lightly lit during the day & at night I usually watch with zero lghting. I'm using The Kraken scene from Pirates 2 to test it out. Using ShawnE94SL professionally calibrated settings (posted pg. 1) worked well for our 46W3000. (Thanks for sharing ShawnE94SL!) For the most part we watch with the settings on Standard. A couple of weeks ago we used the THX optimizer from a SD via an HDMI connected Oppo 980H (passthru) to an Onkyo 605 to our Sony. Here are the settings we arrived at: (they have worked well so far on HD Cable, DVD and Blu-Ray)
Backlight- 7 Picture- 86 Brightness- 45 Color- 59 Hue- G3 Color Temp- cool Sharpness- 45 Noise Red- Off Advanced Black Cor- Off Adv C.E- Off Gamma- Off Clear White- Low Color Space- Wide Live Color- Off White Balance Digital Enh- Low Edge Enh- Off Power Saving- Low Any other settings not listed were left at OFF and/or the default. |

I tried the CNet settings out first when fiddling with my KDS60A2000 but I found the colors a little too dark for my tastes. Especially with cable programming. I also tried several settings from the AVS forums and these particular settings gave me the best picture. It's vivid like without all the over saturation and flesh tones are natural. PS3 is my BD player.
PS3 output over HDMI Setup Game Mode = Off Picture Picture Mode = Custom (of course) Advanced Iris = Auto 1 Picture = Max Brightness = 48 Color = 48 Hue = 0 Color Temp = Warm 1 Sharpness = 30 Noise Reduction = Low (sometimes Medium if there is heavy noise) Advanced Settings Black Corrector = Off Gamma = Low Clear White = Low Live Color = Off White Balance = All 0 Detail Enhancer = High Edge Enhancer = Off |

Hey people wanted to see if you guys could answer a question for me. I have a Sony KDL-40V2500. Now i am trying to calibrate it using the DVE HD Basics Calibration disk. Now i already did it, but i am gonna do it again to make sure I got it right. Now what i wanted to do was compare the setting i got from the DVE Basics disk to the setting they had at Tweaktv.com . Now the don't have the settings for a KDL-40V2500 at Tweaktv.com, but they do have the settings for a Sony KDL-46V2500. So what I wanted to know is if I can use the settings for the KDL-46V2500 on my KDL-40V2500, wouldn't they be the same TV except for the size; I am guessing the 40 and 46 means the size in the model #. So if you guys could help me out i would appreciate it a lot, since all of this is new to me.

Hi all, I am new to HDTV's, and would greatly appreciate some help.
![]() I currently bought a Sony Bravia KDL 40V4000. I will be using it to watch blu ray films on the Sony BDP-S300 player (HDMI 1080p) Also to play games on the XBOX 360 (HDMI 1080p) I would really appreciate any suggestions/tips on what settings to use on this TV to get a really good picture. Thanks. P.S. It comes with a setting Full Pixel, What is this? and Should i use it when using the blu ray player and 360. |
