I have the same display (TH50PZ80U) and I currently use the following settings for HD sources (I'm still during my first 100 hours...)
# Picture Modes * Picture Mode : Cinema * Color Temperature : Warm * Aspect Ratio : Full # Picture Settings * Picture (Contrast) : +55 * Brightness : +40 * Color : +34 * Tint : -6 * Sharpness : +18 * Color Temperature : Warm * Color Mgmt : Off * x.v.Color : Off # Advanced Picture * Video NR : Off * MPEG NR : Off * Black Level : Light * HD Size : Size 2 Basically I took the settings from the 85 at TweakTV and I adjusted the Picture (Contrast) and Brightness with the a video optimization test pattern (I don't remember from what title it was, maybe NIN) that has black gray squares on one side and white gray squares on the other side. I have a ps3 and I play games sometimes but I haven't got a chance to try one since I got the new plasma (right now it's temporarily in my bedroom so I only watch movies or shows before going to sleep) ... But I'm more a movie lover than a gamer.

Hi there, thanks for the info... I "only" have the 80u and find these settings are pretty spot on, I have lifted the brightness a little (prob due to the lower CR of the 80 compared to teh 85?)
but.... When I chose HD Size: 2 , I get the full picture, but find I have a "ragged" edge along the top (esp when in 4:3) it has a variety of colours, whites reds and yellows in particular... This surely cant be good for IR, or Burn... Has anyone else noticed this? I dunno if I should sacrifice the small loss of picture jst to not have this at the top? Thanks again. |

For the pz80 and pz85, does the x.v.Color really hurt the picture?
Setting it to "auto" is supposed to engage it only when the source corresponds to x.v.Color. I know that right now there are no source (or very few) outputting x.v.Color but I only wanted to to verify if putting on "auto" instead of "off" was having an unwanted effect. I was wondering if anyone out there could share their settings for a 50" Panasonic TH-50PZ700U. I have a playstation 3 as my blue-ray player. And also should I change the settings for animation? Thanks a million.

I just got my set but have settled on this for the moment:
Picture mode: Standard Picture +100 Brightness +55 Color +32 Tint -4 Sharpness 0 Color temp Normal Color mgmt Off xv Color Off Video NR Off MPEG NR On Black level Dark HD size Size 1 Looks pretty good to me, but it's entirely subjective. Have yet to calibrate. |

I Have A Question About Settings On A Panasonic Virrea 50 In Pz85u Plasma. I Have Bought One But Was Wondering Does The Set Allow For Adjusting The Widescreen Image Of A Dvd To Fit The Full 24 In Widescreen Image Hight Of The Tv. I Guess What I Am Asking Is Can You Get Ride Of The Black Bars On The Top And Bottom Of The Screen Which Give A Smaller Overall Image On The Set. Why Is It That Dvds Which Are Presented In Diffrent Widescreen Formats Depending On The One You Buy, Dont Just Fill Out The Entire Screen On Widscreen Tvs Regaurdless Of The Tvs Size. When I Bought A Widscreen Tv To Play Dvd Movies I Thought There Would Be No Black Bars On My Screen Like I Used To Have When Paying Dvds On My Old Sqare Tv Which Wasent Widescreen.

Whoa... old post but I'll reply anyways... the sharpness gives false edges if up much higher and the color is just a little more natural... i have tweaked the settings since and will post them some time.

Is it best to wait till after the first 100 hours to mess with the settings? Question about the presets on the 80u Custom and Game look identical yet one is brighter than other? I tried using the DVE bd disc but just got lost lol
