Default PHILIPS: Share Your Custom Display Settings

This thread is intended for members to share their custom picture settings for all PHILIPS model TV's.

To help make life easier for others...please try to include (but not limited to):

TV Model Number?
Weather it's an ISF Calibrated setting or Disc calibrated setting?
What Input Connection this setting is used for? (ex. HDMI, Component, Composite etc)
What device is connected? (dvd player, bluray player, cable tv ..etc)
What kind of room lighting you have? (dark, dim, bright etc)
Any key features that are turned on or that should be turned off?

Additional Info: *Calibrate Your HDTV*

*Please do not criticize settings being shared...it is a courtesy to those who cannot afford an ISF calibration or do not own a calibration dvd.

*Please also keep in mind that using someone else's settings may look good but it does not necessarily mean it will be ideal for your viewing pleasure and may require some tweaking.

*It is also NOT recommended for anyone to go into the Service Menu to make any adjustments.

...can't believe you forgot the Philly thread,

In any case, reading over the forums at AVS and my own tinkering, I came across this good calibration for any of the Philips PFL7432Ds, whether 42, 47, or 52 - the 7422s are a little different. I was looking for the most natural skin tone colors and decent blacks. The connection is a DMP-BD30 and PS3 with HDMI cables. Ambient lighting in the room is anywhere from none to well-lit, works just fine. In any case, here we go:

Color Temperature: Custom:
R-WP: 112
G-WP: 110
B-WP: 90
R-BL: 7
G-BL: 6

Contrast: 80 (Anywhere from 70-90 is good too)
Brightness: 72 (For Games, you might have to increase this and Contrast up a bit)
Color: 60
Tint: 8
Sharpness: 1

Perfect Pixel HD: Off (On sharpens the image, adds more noise and grain on Blu-Rays, but helps in Standard Def...strange)
Dynamic Contrast: Minimum (Maximum changes contrast WAY too much in the middle of the movie, giving it a faint strobe light effect)
Noise Reduction: Maximum (I know this goes against popular thinking, but try it)
MPEG Reduction: Off (For Standard Def TV, keep it on!)

Try these out, these give me excellent results.

That's what I went for - looks more real, doesn't it?

I think it should have the same set-up as the 47" which I own, your probably looking to choose color temperature and then custom. If not just ask

Default Black Level?

Anyone able to get the Black levels good on this TV? I used the girl slides at: http://www.xyhd.tv/2007/10/how-to/ca...th-sexy-girls/
but the slide to get good black levels(black skirt) I was unable to see the pattern in the skirt no matter what I adjusted the R-bl & G-bl too.

Yeah, that's been my biggest problem so far, trying to get decent ones - I usually have contrast at 70 with Dynamic Contrast at minimum...I think playing with the dynamic contrast setting would do it, but at maximum it flickers on and off too much to be bearable.

Never knew this was here! I did mine from some browsing over at ATS and tweaking them to my tastes. I'll have to put them up tonight when I get home and get model # and exact settings.

However, I have a question JJ on yours:

With a sharpness of 1 and Perfect Pixel set to OFF, don't you find BD's looking very soft? Everything I've read and tried recommended Perfect Pixel to On, and sharpness set at 5 (which goes against other sets). I'm curious.

Also, why have Noise Reduction on Maximum?

Not criticizing, but curious. Again, I'll update with my settings tonight. I have a 42" that I don't recall the model of at the moment. I do know that I have similar/same Contrast, slightly lower Brightness, and Dynamic Contrast on Medium. I would prefer it to low but I found that the changes were too gradual and thus made it really noticeable for me. On Medium I rarely if ever notice the transition as it's quicker.

Ok, I kept forgetting to do this until last night. Here are my settings. I have a Philips PFL7422 I believe. 42" Philips 1080p. I based my settings off of some folks over at AVSForum and this webpage: http://www.baseportal.com/baseportal/philipscal/PFL74x2

Contrast: 79
Brightness: 60
Color: 55
Tint: 5
Sharpness: 5
Color Temp: Custom
RWP: 105
GWP: 95
BWP: 85
RBL: 5
GBL: 5
Perfect Pixel: On
Dynamic Contrast: Medium
Noise Reduction: Off
MPEG Compression: Off
Color Enhancement: Off
Active Control: Off
Light Sensor: Off

I have read numerous things against Noise Reduction on these sets, so I leave it off. Sharpness I set to 5- 1 to 4 are "Off" and seem to lose some sharp detail, and higher than 5 seems like it adds some noise and detail. Dynamic Contrast I actually have set on Minimum right now, but usually it's on Medium- Minimum seems to change too slowly while Medium is pretty quick. My Contrast is a little high compared to others on the link, but it's a good compromise between clipping whites and getting some bright images out of the set. All in all I'm very happy with these settings.

Also, there's a new/final firmware update for the set that I just installed last night. So far I can't see any changes but it is supposed to fix the 3 HDMI issue that plagues some of these sets.

Ah, same as mine but without the Ambilight feature! You'll find the settings here to be quite good - I think I've dropped the brightness down to 55 on my TV by now though, to get better blacks...

Updated Settings:
Color Temperature: Custom:
R-WP: 112
G-WP: 110
B-WP: 90
R-BL: 7
G-BL: 6

...I think I updated those too, to try to control the red crush on these Philips 7422/7432 units. I'm not near my TV now, but when I am...

Contrast: 75
Brightness: 55 (For Games, you might have to increase this and Contrast up a bit)
Color: 60
Tint: 6
Sharpness: 1

Perfect Pixel HD: Off (On sharpens the image, adds more noise and grain on Blu-Rays, but helps in Standard Def...strange)
Dynamic Contrast: Minimum (Maximum changes contrast WAY too much in the middle of the movie, giving it a faint strobe light effect)
Noise Reduction: Off
MPEG Reduction: Off

Wow, I can't explain how good me TV looks now! I used to get that ghosting effect in dark scenes of a blu-ray, but not anymore! Thanx JJxiv for your settings!

I'm surprised to see you say that about Perfect Pixel. I find it helps with everything and doesn't seem to add to the noise/grain for me. I might try playing with the setting a bit more, though honestly I'm really happy with my settings. Other than PP and Sharpness, our settings are pretty similar overall.
