Hi I have a Philips Model: 42PFL7403D/27, was wondering if anyone had some settings for it, it has the 120Hz if it makes a difference, or if I could just use the settings from one of the other models on here, just wanna get the best picture, even though it looks good to me I figure there is better haha. thanks.

While there may be some variation in these sets, you should be able to get close using any of these settings. The 120hz may be the exception since it probably uses a different panel type.

I have a 42PFL9632D/10 and I know I'll sound annoying, but I was just wondering if there were better settings because I tried both of those shown up there whilst playing LittleBigPlanet and we lost quite a lot of colors. Although that might come from us being accustomed to how the TV was set before.

"lost quite a bit of colors"... what does that mean? Reds, blues, greens, yellows- any of those look oversaturated or off? If everything looks "duller" than before, I'd guess that you had store display settings running on it. I've tried the settings I've posted, as well as some of the settings that CNet posted, and while both vary slightly they both look good.

There is a possibility you have a different panel than some of us, which could account for differences. Other possibilities are strong light.

I'm actually watching Firefly right now on Blu and the colors look great- bright and strong without being too hot or pushed.

I need to test the new settings on a Blu-ray to see if the movie experience has been enhanced.

Sorry about my vague description earlier, it was late and I couldn't fully word my thoughts. And yes, I was using store settings.
I'll test a movie and see if there's any difference.

Store settings are always cranked way up to the point of oversaturation and being too bright. It can be a bit hard on the panel's longevity since everything is burning in "torch" mode.

May take some getting used to but any of these posted here or over at AVS will probably be better overall than factory display mode.

okay so I used Wall.e and ratatouille to calibrate my philips, and the numbers I got where this:
contrast:98
brightness:55
color:57
tint:2
sharp:4

I can't manually adjust the colors, but they seem to look fine, and any of those other things (auto this, dynamic that) I have all those off. Now my thing is though the picture still seems a little grainy, anyway to make that better or is it just my blu's that are grainy (curse of the golden flower, fifth element, even iron man), I could have swore they looked better before I messed with all the settings but I could be wrong, Dark knight still lookd good though so idk if it is old transfers or what, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

They look worse because you have the contrast cranked way the hell up. Not only are you going to be clipping whites, you're accentuating grain beyond what's normally there. Even Iron Man has grain, especially in the cave scenes near the beginning of the movie, but I've never found it to be especially bad.

There should be a way to manually calibrate the colors on most Philips. When you get into the color presets (warm, cool, normal) is there also a "custom"?

Honestly, I have no idea. I have to think at some point they're going to change panels, but if the manufacturer remains the same I'd say it'd be close to the same if not exact. I would just give it a try and see what it looks like.

no as far as color presets go, there is only the three options nothing about custom, and as far as the contrast i put it up there because that is what helped it look good I will put it down some and see if that helps, thanks

Hi all just found this forum after trawling through the net.

I have the 47PFL9703D, and have the picture quality thing going on. It is useless tbh. The pic is very grainy on BD and on SD also. I have not used the settings some of the good folk have posted up here as yet as i don't know if they will be of any use on this model??

I can find no settings about this model throughout the net and have nothing to go on only here tbh. Do i try these settings that have been posted up for another model or does anyone know if they can assist and help me here. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Bluray coming from PS3 via HDMI.

Thanks

This. Just give it a try. Worst case scenario it looks like crap and you change it back.

Default Settings on my Philips 42PFL7403D

Here's the settings I've got mine at because sports were really grainy with quite a bit of pixelation during basketball games and other fast moving sequences with big color differential, even in HD.

Contrast - 58
Brightness - 55
Color - 64
Tint - 0
Sharpness - 2

Color Temp - Cool
Dynamic Contrast - Off (seems to cause some of the pixelation)
Digital Natural Motion - ON
DNR - On
Color Enhancement - On
Active Control - OFF
Picture Format - Unscaled

I'm using HDMI and Dish Network 722ViP receiver.

Honestly, I'm about to get the Sony KDL46WL140 @ Costco, bring it home and set it up side by side to compare each at their best settings, not just the store "torch" mode. I want to see if the pixelation and other annoying little things are a result of buying a less expensive set, or if it's just my impossibly high standards. These settings may not work for you, but they are the best I could do to get good sports viewing with other programs coming in nicely at the same time. Hope this helps some of you. Let me know if you have any thoughts.
