Default Blu-ray completely dominating September sales in Norway

Latest released numbers in Norway show a complete domination of Blu-ray sales over HD-DVD.

http://avforum.no/forum/740270-post6495.html

Text is in Norwegian but the charts should speak for themselves.

In September the Blu-ray dominance was a whopping 93,3% over HD-DVD sales.

YTD Blu-ray volume 4,5 million NOK (estimated 830k USD)
YTD HD-DVD volume 1,1 million NOK (estimated 203k USD)
September Blu-ray volume 700k NOK vs HD-DVD volume 50.000 NOK

Definitely not huge amounts of money yet, but the numbers are nothing short of spectacular.

True, we have a rich tradition of importing from the US when we can

And in that light it is truly jawdropping to see these numbers since these are sales from distributor to retailers and indicate Blu-ray selling very well in shops while HD-DVD has completely lost its momentum.

I -do- suspect that the less than peachy HD-DVD numbers are due to the fact of the movies being region-free, meaning that in good tradition most Norwegian early adopters will import directly from the US instead of waiting for a regional release.

I am aware that UK and netherlands are 4:1 to BD. Norway joined the league. congrats.... Now, if it can be more like Japan, it would be better (9:1)

Hey! One of my grandmother's Norwegian. I think of her as being innocent when she was young. Then again, she was probably smart enough to stay away from Oslo.

Oslo, I heard is not a good city for youngster. Crown Princess Mette Marit (I am a royal family watcher - especially scandinavian one, especially denmark) used to use drugs in Oslo. Fortunately, she is changed completely, and good-hearted norwegian people accepts her as crown princess.

Lucky, your grandma stayed away from oslo. I am in fact avoiding any big cities
