I am a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro, but I think I'll wait until Miramax (or is it The Weinstein Company?) release it. I read somewhere that GDT is working on Mimic "Director's cut". But since he is too busy right now, perhaps we'll have to wait for a while.
Thanks for the info anyway.

just finished watching it i had seen it before many years ago i did'nt remember it having such a great cast of actors the cgi is a little weak but its a older film so i won't give it bad marks for that but all in all a decent monster flick .

I really like it. I think its a really fun monster movie; but yeah, CGI is never as fun as mechanical special effects; and this is quite early CGI. Its years (in industry terms) after Terminator 2, which was landmark in expanding CGI, but still, yeah, sure, a bit primitive.

It does however have really good director Del Toro, and majorly hot Mira Sorvino in high def.

PS, I previewed this blu ray before I left for work, and looks like its not majorly terrible, as I was worried it might be. Its definitely high def, and its definitely a massively larger file size than any of its (really weak) pan/scan previous DVD incarnations.

Deeper look at transfer: no DNR used! Image is smooth in motion. Pleasing grain present, as usual more visible in lower lighting. Image appears naturally soft at times when diffused lighting is used to create atmosphere. Colours are just stunning compared to the ancient r4 pan/scan release. Detail is so good in closeups u can see the makeup on lovely Mira's face! Highly recommended.

Ok, here's a breakdown of the Hzs. Disc opens in 60Hz, which is compatible with US ps3s, and then goes straight to 24Hz. And US buyers won't be bothered by any 1080i/PAL-produced special features, because the BD is bare bones. Excellent, but bare bones.
