Default Blu-Ray Dominating in Spain

Don't know if this has been posted already but just wanted to share the BD vs HD numbers for Spain.

Just so you know, Spain is one of the biggest user bases of Playstation products in Europe. PS3 has already surpassed the LTD sales of 360.

Blu-Ray 82%
HD-DVD 18%

It looks like the only region where a "format war" is taking place is in US

Good report. The USA sites love to make bad news. Thinks it will get more reads. Makes it harder for people to get good info and make good decisions. We realy love to beat on the big dog.

we should have an international collabritive thread to keep track of all the recent numbers from around the world. for example have it so we can just click on it and see: japan 94% blu; Spain 82%; USA 61%, Australia 84% etc.

Really good news, since I spend a lot of time there. I just hope they go to all-region releases when they publish discs. Also, Spain has had a weird tendency to release DVDs with only one langauge translation option: dubbed! Thank God I can understand many European languages, but that doesn't help for Indian and Asian titles!.

I have confidence in Europe as the format war goes. I think that things will turn out right in the US, too. There are enough smart people there, they just have to work harder to counteract the unscrupulous marketing practices of the DUD crowd.

very true. hd dvd is non existant in most of southeast asian country. it only has 6% in its birthplace, europe already dominated by BD.

This is why so much of the world is frustrated with the US.

We (the US, that is) just don't get it.

Seriously, in most other parts of the world if something is 'better' and technically 'superior' in all ways you just do it. There is no soap opera about who spends more on advertising and who spreads the most FUD, etc. It is just, "This is the best so we do it."

It's very unfortunate because it makes people from the US look bad in many ways I won't list here. I would say that supporting HDDVD at this point is 'un-American'; however, it is _exactly_ how someone from the US would be expected to act.

The US loves drama.

I do wish we could finally get over it and instead just make intelligent decisions based on merit instead of gossip and advertising mindshare.

This may be a sad statement but it is to-the-point and very revealing. Your partial analogy above is practically flawless.

Either way only time will tell what would happen in Q1.

I just got back from Norway and Portugal on vacation. While enduring my wife constantly rolling her eyes, I would ask the clerks at all of the electronics stores I went into (at the malls etc) which was selling more- and all said Blu-Ray (in both countries). One guy in Norway was surprised the HD-DVD was holding its own in the USA.

I find it amazing HD-DVD fanboys have any hope knowing Blu-Ray holds 90%+ of the market in Japan. Whatever Japan does with electronics, the rest of the world follows.

Even if I dumped tens of thousands into HD-DVD, after hearing that I'd abandoned ship immediately. Am I crazy?? What's wrong with these people??

From everything I have read and heard, the US is the only Market in the World that HD-DVD is "hanging on". Everywhere else it is a non factor.

Does anyone have news to report where HD-DVD is leading in sales in anything, hardware or software??
