Default Blu-ray killing HD-DVD in Norway...you'll love this...

Check out that nice fancy pie on this link

http://www.release.no/artikkel.asp?ID=4930

In October Blu-ray sold 96% of all HD discs in Norway to HD-DVD's measly 4%.

The accumulated numbers for the year is 85% for Blu and 15% for HD-DVD.

Crazy crazy numbers. We might be a small country but we DO spend a ton of money on tech, gadgets and software

Those are shipped to stores, not sell through numbers. Still a nice ratio though.

i like norway and pie i approve of this thread

i would say the Marketing and the market is much larger in the US then most places so people have brought into HD DVD

in places like Oz there is no ads for HD DVD but there is for blu ray.

wow!

the US is more open for hddvd due to a)zealots and b)toshiba giving away huge amounts of disks and players for no profit, only speculating that they will make back the money in future

this is about the time HD-DVD says "ah ha I got you right where you want me!" when will they give up on HD-DVD and let the market grow?

I'm new but seeing as this thread has something to do with the format war, i thought it would be a good enough place to bring up this article I just read... why would our Sony CEO say this???? I don't think we're anywhere near a stalemate... i mean, would you call 2:1 a stalemate? which is only in the US... which is the closest HD-DVD will ever get... everywhere else in the world, blu rules!!!!

Man, Blu-ray has dominated in every country except for the U.S., they can tout their sales here (even though Blu's are still higher), but in 90% Of the world they are virtually non existant. This should mean that HD DVD has lost, so why doesnt it? Why can a format that is only viable in one country stay alive?

Yes, Frode is correct these are sales from distributor to stores. But it does give a good indication where the market here is heading. HD-DVD is sitting dead in the water while Blu-ray is selling well.

I could tell you why, but some of my fellow Americans might get a little offended.
