Red face Help my brain out...its tired

Well i am new to this site...i have no blu ray movies
i just purchased a 52 inch lcd 1080p hdtv from best buy
and i got a tv stand for it
i also bought a 40 gig ps3
Well i took it back today--the ps3
i have no games or blu ray movies
When i heard the metal gear bundle with the ds3 controller is coming out and its 80 gig...thats just 100 dollars more...i figured why not?

But i dont want metal gear...i will probably trade it in for a second ds3 controller....i do want the 80 gig ps3 with the ds3 controller tho

I want to get motorstorm...uncharted...ratchet and clank...THEN when they come out madden 09..motorstorm 2....thats about it for now

Theres about 37 blu ray movies i would like to have also...

I have about 300 dvds...And im battling back in forth with my brain to figure should i take them to this used store and sell them all just so i can stock up and start a blu ray collection and get some games...and was it dumb to take back the 40 gig and try to get the 80 gig one.....

Should i jump in and do all this crazy crap...i dont want to regret it down the road tho...

Anyone with a past experience from when they started out going blu
or anyone with a suggestion or idea
DEEPLY appreciated...
Thanks

A good way to get blu's on the cheap is to check our hot deals forum here. Like right now, Best buy has a 2 for 30$ sale on around 30-40 different blu ray movies. It won't break the bank to get into Blu, as long as you don't pay standard retail price!

I would definately recommend going to walmart as somebody previously mentioned because of the 100$ gift card.

About getting an 80gb vs. a 40gb, the big difference is the backwards compatibility, do you own PS2 games? If not, then there's no major difference between the two that would affect you. With the money you save, you can get a bunch of different stuff including 2 ds3 controllers. Also if you haven't already bought HDMI cables, check out monoprice.com they are a lot cheaper then you will find in stores, and it's the exact same quality.

No...most people did not, because the way most people see it, it won't be worth getting every movie on Blu-ray, some of them won't look better, while I disagree, I can't see myself spending all that money on replacing said dvds with blu-rays, since many aren't out yet or never will be

after a while, you stop noticing that you're watching blu-ray quality. what matters most is the movie itself. and an unconverted dvd looks amazing as it is. definitely not worth getting rid of your huge dvd collection. it's more to impress people.

My major plan is to replace my favorites with BD, but use the PS3 (or any standalone) to just up-convert everything else. From what everyone says, a DVD up-converted still looks really good.

Sell the ones that don't mean much to you. Keep the ones you really like, at least until own them on Blu-ray and are comfortable with selling them. And ALWAYS keep DVDs that you don't think will be released on Blu-ray until a very long time.

I finally got the t.v. I've been wanting for a while - 65 in", 1080p Mits. Woot!

But there was no way I was not going to have hi-def content to play.

When I first started buying Blu-rays:
Funny thing happened. I started going through my old DVDs, seeing which ones I "no longer watch" to use for trading in - either for money or for swapping for Blu-ray movies. As I was going through my DVDs, I noticed I had a lot of crap: impulse buys, crappy movies I bought just for the visuals and/or sound (hey, I like my home theater!).

It was kind of an eye opener and helped me pace myself in my Blu-ray purchases. I have a hard time looking at three movies on the shelf and thinking, "Uh, that's $90 freakin' dollars right there". I'm in the military with a wife and two kids - $90 on three movies just seems a bit excessive.

So, traded in my cr@ppy DVDs for my first few Blu-rays, - now, I wait for sales, but mainly rent from Blockbuster. I am very lucky that my local blockbuster has over 200 Blu-rays and most of the new releases each week.

Hope that helps with your decisions.

beware of the films that won't be released again in Blu-ray in many years ans you will regret selling for cheap! but better sell them away as long as they're worth some dollars as when Blu-ray is dominant they won't be worth much.

I think it would be foolish to sell all your DVD's. I own over 1700, and I do not intend on selling any of them. What you could get for them really isnt worth it anyway... Plus who knows how long some titles will take to come out on Blu-ray.

I went through my DVD collection and found about 30 movies I either know I'll never watch again or have already upgraded to Blu-ray. The rest I plan to keep.

sorry for being brief last night. was writing on my ps3 and didn't want to write out a long message.

this is what i did.

1. Went through all my DVDs that I rarely watched, was done watching or I never opened up. This left everything, but Star Wars and Donnie Darko. (I had about 45 DVDs)

2. I went to a Hastings traded them all in for about $150 Store Credit

3. I bought a 60GB PS3 for $450 + $60 game.

4. I began rebuilding my collection with blu-rays.

5. Bought an HDTV.

Now, some people here might go wtf?!!?!?! you sold off like 90% of your DVDs, here is why.

1. My roommate, who had the only console in the dorm, moved out, so I was forced to buy a new console if I wanted to game.

2. I am much more of a gamer than a movie buff.

3. Blu-ray made me into a much bigger movie buff, so to me a lot of the DVDs weren't worth that much at the time.

4. I didn't really lose 90% of my DVD collection, because I watched Star Wars 80% of the time anyways.

exactly... while I have 59 blu's, I have around 200 dvds... I think eventually my blu's will waaaaaaay surpass my dvd collection as I didn't start buying dvds until way later than 97. I was only in 7th grade then.
