Default help with Samsung HLS6167WX/XAA

Hello

I've been having trouble with my Samsung 61" for some months now.

Sometimes, well most of the time now the screen is red and sometimes the picture will look a bit distorted too with with some green streaks and is unwatchable. Sometimes it goes back to looking normal and then the screen turns red again with the green distorted streaks and now its starting to turn off by itself too. Sometimes I hear a hissing noise and the lamp light flashes.

does anybody know what this could be. Is it the lamp? Is it the color wheel? could it be both?

It sucks cus I called the TV repair man and he came over to take a look at it and he said that it would most likely cost at least $400 or more to fix. If its the light I could probably fix it by myself. I do have an extra light on hand.

I don't want to give up on my DLP. I have had it since 2007 and back then it cost me some good amount of money.
