Default Google Play 4K Movies

Damn, man. Did anybody know about these? They have a TON of 4k movies that aren't on bluray (13 Hours, Transformers 4, Mission Impossible 5, 10 Cloverfield Lane, etc.) just to name a few.

Physical over digital any day. But has anybody used this? I don't see anything about HDR or Dolby Vision though.

Interesting, they have The Godfather in UHD.

I'm gonna use all the .99c and 75% promos to check out a few.

So you need Chromecast Ultra which I don't have. Not worth getting that.

When I go to the rent/purchase options on my Sony x810c the UHD options show. Don't want to spend the money to rent or buy though because I'm afraid the quality will be just as bad as their HD... lol

I think your tv uses Android os that's why you can access them... I have a lg oled tv and have google play on it but can't access the uhd section 😞

I dont get my Chromecast Ultra until Thursday (omg Google Store shipping this week has been terrible. Poor timing of me to buy around Christmas weekend.)

I will be using my rental on a UHD film so I will report back once I try it out.

I'm able to find the "Top UHD" section on my Roku Ultra but there's nothing but HD/SD options available.

Just tested out my 1 dollar rental on a UHD movie.

Google Chromecast works to show the UHD option IF AND ONLY IF you cast to it via an android phone or chrome browser.

The quality was fine. I would say on par with Netflix 4k streaming. But the non-promo price is not worth it, especially if your TV up-scales FHD well like my LG OLED E6.

But I am very glad to get the Chromecast regardless for HDR Youtube.

There's also a promo going on to watch Ghostbuster3 (2016 version) 4K for free.

What movies even benefit from 4K? A lot of stuff was shot on 35mm film which as I understand is about equal to 4K digital in terms of resolution. These streams would also be large, even when compressed with H.265. How can they stream that without constant buffering? Do any streaming devices even support H.265 yet?

Here's something interesting. ON my computer, my UHD purchases show as UHD, but on my Vizio TV, in the YOUTUBE app, some of the movies I don't have in UHD are still saying UHD. Is this another iTunes where it shows UHD but it's not...or is there something I'm missing. I'm on a regular 1080 tv so obviously i wouldn't be able to truly test it...but what's the deal with this?

Is the Godfather still available in UHD? I'm considering buying the Chromecast Ultra primarily for that but if its not there I likely won't bother. It doesn't show up on my google movies, but I wondered if it would if I had the Ultra.

I don't think so. There were a bunch of exclusive Paramount titles available on GP as rental-only, but they seem to have disappeared.
