Default PlayStation store and movies Anywhere

Seems like they'd have been added as a retail store/partner after all Sony is a studio partner so in the same vein PlayStation should've been a destination for buying the movies as is Microsoft has Xbox in while the PlayStation is still out..weird.

Personally, I will never by a movie on the PlayStation until they join MA. The fact they haven't yet is crazy.

They weren’t part of Ultraviolet even though Sony movies were UV enabled elsewhere.

This has been a pain point since UV.

However, it's important to remember that due to the way Sony is structured, the movie and gaming areas essentially operate like independent companies, so who knows the real reason why the Playstation movie store doesn't support MA. Also, with both VUDU and Amazon having apps on the system, there is actually very little incentive for them to integrate.

Gaming has always been the primary focus of the Playstation line-up and makes up the overwhelming majority of advertising related to the system(s). The one outlier is the PS3, which HEAVILY advertised it's blu-ray player capabilities as it was released during a format war (HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray) and Sony had a vested interest in blu-ray winning. They figured that if they essentially gave away a free blu-ray player (and very good one at that) to millions of gamers, it would give them an advantage in the format war.

By that logic vudu, amazon have it Xbox need not apply for it either movies and tv is their store and I'm sure it is better off in ma not sure Sony is doing any better with PlayStation movies sales wise you'd have so much more to watch .

The Xbox One was specifically pushed in a similar way as the PS3 in that it was meant to be the center of your entertainment system. Think about it, the thing connects to cable boxes! MS also seems to care more about their EST business.

Who knows, now that the "digital locker" war is over (at least for now), PS movies may finally embrace MA.

I've been using VUDU since the PS3, so it doesn't affect me if they join. I think the big thing right now is getting more studios on it.

Agreed there I do want everything under the movies Anywhere ecosystem including tv shows as of now rick and morty are on vudu but futurerama is on iTunes and again star trek tos is vudu and then discovery is iTunes .

You'd think with so many people stuck at home they'd accelerate the plans for movies Anywhere and help keep everyone entertained during these times.

Put another way these are not typical days of doing business and if you can't even get the holdouts onboard faster than normal due to the times how much longer do you think that it will take when things are going back to normal?!

Not really the priority finding a cure for covid 19 is but people should be able to do video conferencing as if tomorrow morning was before the stuff and we've seen nothing what would happen if it didn't take years to get back to normal but was instant don't know how long it will take.

From what I understand, since Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM held out initially (and subsequently didn't invest in the initial system), the MA group either doesn't want them to join or they have to pay higher fees. Considering all three of those studios are on shaky financial ground at best, they probably can't afford to join.

I think we will see some consolidation soon among the studios. Lionsgate especially is ripe for a buyout, as is MGM. Paramount is so large, it would be interesting to see if any studio would value it's IP high enough to take over it's massive debt.

While Disney can purchase anything it might be bad if they purchased the content they want to be added.
If movies Anywhere did tv it could press the issue with holdouts.
