Default 300!! Interesting thing I just saw...

Sitting here watching tv, and there is a commercial for 300. Then it goes to talk about watching in HD, on your PS3. It ending with buy it on blu-ray.

This was interesting because there was no mention of Dvd, and Hd Dvd. Blu-ray camp must be serious about their advertising. Good move i think personally.

Interesting. The BDA is paying for some custom spots for Blu-ray?

Marketing, marketing, marketing.

Wow...and Warner is neutral! If it was a Sony or Disney movie it would even be cool but for Warner this is fantastic. I haven't seen that ad.

Look above at the breadcrumb trail: Blu-ray Forum > Software > Blu-ray Movies. Click on blu-ray forum and go to the specific folder where you want to post. Then click on the start a new thread button.

Waner knows that the demographics for this movie is the Playstation 3 croud. They are going after them in hopes of getting 100's of thousand copies sold. So it is smart for them to mention Playstation 3 and blu-ray in their commercial. It's only a money numbers game for them, not format.

Maybe they don't want to advertise pointless products I.E. The DVD/HD-DVD Combo Disc.

If I still wanted the DVD format I'd of stayed with DVD!!!

And then there's the HD-DUD fanboi classic line, "Well now I can watch it upstairs in my bedroom where I don't have an HDTV or HD player."

Good thing you spent thousands to watch movies in HD but prefer to watch a much worse, smaller picture so you can lay in your bed!!!(???)

While that argue doesn't work in all cases, its a very valid argument. How many places are DVD today? How many cars have been sold, are still being sold and will continue to be sold with DVD's in them?

Say I have kids and want to watch pirates at home. I want it on Blu-ray. Say my kids want to watch it in the car on long trips. Now I need to go buy the DVD. If it was a combo, I'd just need the one disc.

I think everyone forgets that those of us on this forum and other high def related forums are like 1% of the consumer base and we are all very interested in high def. We are not the norm - if we were, there would be much bigger adoption.

So the argument is valid - the way combo's are priced today doesn't make it work so well, but there are times it can be used. Case in point - I had a couple netflix titles out and brought them on a trip with us - forgetting 2 of them were HD DVD. Turned out they were combo's, so we could still watch them.

Had both the HD DVD group and Blu-ray groups been smart, they would have worked on a product that could give us all high def and still remain compatible and do it at prices that work for them too.

Interesting...considering in the notice yesterday about Target..the HD DVD crowd were looking at this title as a money maker...way to go Blu-Ray!!

Excellent point, but consider too that the industry is beholden to investors, and the investors like to see growth. The fact that blu-ray has only a tiny market share right now is a positive because the growth potential is tremendous. DVD is a huge cash-cow but it is getting to the point of maturity and the studios and manufacturers are looking for the next big thing.

No doubt. I just visit a number of forums related to high def and people always point out lossless audio, 1080P..etc.

While you might have those things, many people don't. Half the people don't even have an HDTV! I think people just forget this a lot of the time and think everyone is like them.

HD is better, so DVD can die - it will never be needed again..etc..

finally someone is realizing the benefits of cross-selling these things! imagine J6P (in my case J12P ) watching the TV, "whoah, those PS3 things play those new-fangled HD discs too? I better get down to Target and pick one up"

I recommend learning to use the search function, prior to learning how to post new threads!

and the story continues..

they get to target and "whoa.. 500 bucks!... I'll stick to my DVD's"

Seriously.. all any of these adds and other news worth things (Blockbuster and Target) do is get the blu-ray name out there. People that are actually buying over the next few months are those that have been thinking of buying for some time now.

How many people see anything on TV in the $500 range and run right out and buy it?

true, that would stand to reason that $500 is no small purchase for most folks...what I meant was I'll bet there are a lot of people that KNOW about the PS3, think it's kinda cool, but don't realize the VALUE of it...

I can for sure see the advantage there. But it ends there as well. I can't think of any other situations where it would come in handy.

Borrow it to a friend? LOL... I've found the greatest advantage of BD only movies is friend's can't borrow them.

To pay extra for those rare "what if" situations is silly IMO. And most of us video/audiophiles opted not to have kids due to the diversion of funds from BD movies/equipment to the children
