I have a Mitsubishi WD-73C9 which I calibrated myself and it looks fantastic with film both in 2D and 3D. Better than previous LCD and LCOS sets I have owned, looks more filmlike.

I see.

But wouldn't "ISF" be closer to ISF calibration, as you put it, compared to "Natural"?

Yeah -- even the Sharp 70" looks tremendous; I saw their 70" LED at Best Buy amongst dozens of other screens, and it looked huge. I wish I could fit a 70 in our space because they were doing a great special on it...

That's what I hate about the ridiculously massive screens like this, GP -- it makes the set you have at home seem and look like a portable monitor you take to the football game...

Isn't the 92-inch Mitsubishi a stunner? Wow; I'd love to have one of those someday in a dedicated media room...

Again the picture on this baby is phenomenal. When I watched Avatar 3D on it, it looked way better than when I saw it in my local theater. I will def stick with Mitsubishi for the time being. best bang for my buck.
I really would love to get the new 92". That would be awesome.
Are you saying the PQ on the Mitsubishi was phenomenal, or on your 65" 3D model?

I think we can all agree in here that we'd all LOVE to own that 92 inch screen...

After reading a comparison look between the 92" Mitsubishi and 80" Sharp LED by a guy at AVS Forum, I'm shooting for the Sharp on the basis of PQ. If my overtime schedule works out, I might have it by Christmas.

Very nice, Bob -- what steered you toward the Sharp? What differences in PQ were there between the two?

I actually haven't seen the new 80" yet, but I like the new 70" and don't care for the lack of brightness of the Mitsubishi DLP's, being an owner of three Mitsubishi RP's in the past - and my nephew has the 82". But I want to replace my 70" XBR2 soon with something bigger (and at least as good), and this looks like it will finally fit the bill. This link has some convincing testimony, one of which is by a professional calibrator. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1363281

Wow; yeah, it seems everyone in that thread is beyond excited for the 80 incher (and 70 incher) Sharp. I wish I could fit even something remotely bigger than a 70 in my space, but we just can't.

I'd love to have your 70" Sony, though; man, that screen must be wicked during Blu-ray and DVD playback...

Just remember, if you're 80" is flat against the wall it'll be equivalent to a 60". To replace a 70" XBR you'd need a 90" flat screen for the same effect because it's farther away now. To replace my 82" Mitsu w/ a flat screen(on the wall), I'd need a 100" just to "break even" so to speak.

ISF is the calibrated input. ISF isn't an option like brilliant, bright, etc. until you activate it by putting in calibrated settings(presumably by your ISF calibrator).

True, and I would like something bigger than 80". But a projector wouldn't be bright enough for our living room, and although the Mitsubishi DLP's are OK (and the size of the 92" would be ideal), they appear lackluster IMO when placed side-by-side with a good LED. I am assuming that no manufacturer is going to release an LED bigger than 80" in the near future, since Sony and Samsung have abandoned the large flat-panel market to Sharp. So the 80" Sharp seems to be the "best" I will be able to get within the next couple of years. Since I end up buyiing a new set every five years, perhaps by 2017 there will be more options, and the "perfect" display will finally be available?

I can't speak to the 92", but as far as a properly calibrated 82" the differences(IMO) are negligible.

Went to ABC warehouse yesterday and they had the 80" sharp and 92" mitsubishi on diplay. The mitsubishi is huge on the tv stand it was probably 7 feet tall and 8 feet wide. But the picture didn't look that good to me. Maybe it was the source they were playing a live football game. But just looked so blah. Maybe all the othe tvs there had there brightness cranked. I don't know. The sharp 80" just looking at it looked way brighter and more crisp than the mitsubishi.

Yeah, you know something? I didn't even consider the "bulging back of a rear projection screen" factor when thinking about bigger flat screens -- I too have a Sony RPTV, and the bulging rear does have an effect on placement/positioning algorithms.

However, in my case, our SXRD sits on a piece that fits into a complete multi-piece wall unit, and whatever new screen we get will sit in the same position, perhaps even closer to us -- so, a flat screen isn't going to be wall mounted further back in our particular situation; it would simply sit in the wall unit, on its stand, where our SXRD is/was, even a bit closer to us because of its thin characteristics.

I too saw the 92" Mitsubishi in an RC Willey store, and the thing was massive; they were running an NFL video game of some kind and I swear at first glance I was looking at a live action game on the screen...

I didn't think the picture looked poor, per se, at all -- but I will say this: Those Sharp 70"+ model LCD's sure do look bright, punchy and aggressively colorful, I agree. I saw one at a local Best Buy and the thing absolutely dwarfed all the displays around it in sheer size, and the picture quality was punchier than all the rest, as well. Of course the Sharp could have been set to Vivid/Dynamic, but...

I wish I could afford or had a room to house that 92 inch Mitsu...

Put a 92" Mitsu on the "brilliant" setting, and you'll feel the same way(although I don't recommend it).

Well, any display is going to jump to life by placing it in its Vivid/Dynamic/Brilliant setting; I'm sure the Mitsubishi will do so as well. And as I said, the picture on the 92 incher was far from poor, not even close -- I just was taken aback by the punch of those Sharp LCD's...
