Although many mention convenience as being the most important factor for going digital, this is technically not true as you still have to download or stream using the app of the service provider (vudu, flixster etc). Having 1000s of them are not the problem but rather what do you do when access to them is limited in the future. All it takes is a software update to restrict content. If the downloaded movie can indeed be watched on any medium then I'll accept they are convenient for those interested but otherwise a walk to the nearest store seems more convenient and healthy for me. |

Not really. It's the loss of a great industry to cater for the likes of you with your desire to watch Star Wars on your watch or phone IMO. It's a sad sad state of affairs. I don't even know what you are doing on this forum. There are loads of forums for streaming and mobile devices. Or do you enjoy getting a rise out of dedicated home cinema fans?

The join date is a big indication. its like joining a baseball forum and then declaring how you love Ice Hockey but don't really care for baseball. It's odd to me.
The guy went into a Avatar/True lies thread just to state that Avatar sucks! (His words) this type of member is becoming more prominent IMO. Last edited by Steedeel; 05-22-2016 at 11:47 AM. |

Right now the Internet is down in my house. This is the reason I have a hybrid of discs and digital. Pure digital is reliant on having internet. I've had nights in the past that I was forced to watch cable TV because i couldn't watch the movies I own. So aggrivating.

This is the reason they need to offer a digital download that =disc quality (whether that be DVD, Blu-ray, 4K). Then people can store it locally on a hard drive to watch it. But they really need to offer DRM-free downloads so that people can truly watch them anywhere or burn it to a disc if needed. Studios could design a system where you go on there, enter your info and pay for a copy of the movie; and then let you download the file via a torrent (kind of like how Linux lets you download ISOs over torrents). Yes I see that they are trying to prevent piracy. They should stop putting crippling restrictions on people who paid for it, and go after folks that put it on Pirate Bay for free. I am one of those cautionary tales people. I have been full in on both Blu-ray and on digital before. I have had a Blu-ray collection of close to 700 when that was alot. I currently have a VUDU collection of 700+. I have dealt with the pros and cons of both sides of this.

Caps are archaic unfortunately though. It is something that countries with better infrastructure don't have to deal with. I hope they do disappear not because I want to go full digital again, but because I hate being limited on what I can and can't do for the month.

I don't dislike the idea of digital. I dislike the concept of not being able to store content locally, and if I can store it locally, it's chock full of DRM. Now don't get me wrong - DVD and Blu-ray has DRM too - but at least you can watch them on pretty much any DVD or Blu-ray player.

I see the point you're driving at. That studios will only offer streaming, with no option to store content locally. Sad but true. Convenience is more important to most people than quality. You see it with music too. Most people are happy with streaming or low bitrate downloads as opposed to a properly-mastered CD. It's a race to the bottom.

And yeah it was Comcast. I am well aware the cap was raised, but I can't time travel that to a few years ago. My post was in the past tense about having the issue when the cap was 300gb which was very very easy to hit. Plus do you think movies are the only thing to use the internet? You specifically say "You'll have a hard time consuming that many movies" as if that is the only thing used on the internet. Nevermind video games, music, YouTube, Hulu, etc... The game Quantum Break with cutscenes was around 100gb. Got to love chewing up 1/10th of your cap in a day. Data caps are BS plain and simple. |
