However, Gremlins 4K is now $6.99 at Vudu, and Vudu does allow you to upgrade.
If you are lucky, some of your MA titles will not port out correctly. I recently seen The Shinning UHD on sale at GP, but I already owned it in HD from Vudu, and it ported to MA and out to other retailers, but for some reason it never went out to GP so I was able to buy the UHD from GP, which ported back to MA, overwrighting the HD in MA. Don't know who is to blame for that, MA or GP, but it was an easy work around for me to get a cheap upgrade.

I just checked all the titles I still need to upgrade to UHD, and out of all of them The Gallows and Die Hard never ported out to GP, so I can upgrade them for free now using points.

To be clear you're saying the users with the HD copy will be able to access the 4K copy, once all of the HD copies are unshared? I tried this and it didn't work.

How come some Google titles are able to rent in 4K but not purchase? I prefer the Google Play library in general because I use a lot of Google paid services.

I'm going to start letting Google know they're my favorite but don't become worthless over this.

Did anyone elses Beauty & the Beast 2017 get a 4k upgrade notification today or recently? I redeemed the GP code summer 2019...thought Disney movies were excluded?

So under my 'Upgraded to 4k' section in the app it's showing the original Lion King, Toy Story, and Up. Starting to wish I didn't stop redeeming my disney stuff on google...

Yes GP can connect to MA, and so can iTunes. GP is my primary service but sometimes I get MA movies through iTunes and watch them on Youtube or GP.

UK GP codes now are eligible to be given the free upgrade
https://9to5google.com/2020/05/12/go...k-upgrade/amp/ if UK movies were available as 4k in UK. Now if MoviesAnywhere expanded into EU that would be awesome but unlikely due to their privacy/data laws

Hi, If I have 4k movies on Googleplay, what would be the best way to watch them on an Apple mobile device? Is there a way to download them on an apple mobile device? I've heard things about the play movies app wiping download when the internet connection is dodgy. Anyone have any experience with this?

Google Play Movies and YouTube will play them.

We use the Google Play Family Library. I've run into an issue where if one user already owns a movie in HD and another user upgrades that movie to 4K, the user with the HD copy doesn't get access to the 4K "upgrade" from the shared Family Library.

Essentially, we had users A, B, C, each with their own individual VUDU accounts but they were all linked to the same shared UV locker. When UV got shut down, any movie that was originally added to the locker by user A, became permanently "owned" in the VUDU accounts for users B and C, and vice versa. Now all of these users have VUDU and Google Play linked via Movies Anywhere, and share a Google Play Family Library, along with a new user, user D, who was not originally part of the shared UV locker. If user A upgrades an HD movie to 4K via a Movies Anywhere digital code, and that movie happens to be one that was previously added to the UV locker in HD and now owned by user A, B, and C, only user D can see that movie in 4K in the Family Library, users B, and C, cannot see the upgrade since they "own" that movie in HD in VUDU and by extension Google Play via Movies Anywhere.

Is there any way around this? Seems like they should let you access whatever the highest quality is available whether that's through the Family Library or your own library, but right now it seems whatever quality you own personally will override the Family Library copy.
I'm working on this now
It used to not be an issue I think it is related to Movies Anywhere connection

I hope I am not high jacking this thread, but I have a question about Google Play. My Question is I have bought Home Alone in 4K UHD DISC, and I have redeemed the digital code for the movie in Google Play, but in my account it does not indicate that the movie is in 4K it just says HD. Is'ent the digital copy of the movie also suppose to be in 4K?

Check 4ksheet before redeeming any codes in the future. GP codes always redeem as HD even if it came from a uhd. Can't load that sheet on my phone atm but I think for that movie u had to have redeemed in MA or Vudu. Since it's a Fox movie, GP should upgrade the movie to 4k in a few days but it would still port out as HD to MA. Even if u dc gp from ma before the upgrade and reconnected to ma after the upgrade, I'm pretty sure gp still pushes it to ma as hd.

Attempted to watch both Blade Runner 2049 & 1917 on GP last week. On both attempts the stream would occasionally drop in resolution to worse than DVD quality. I watched the remainder of both movies on disc. GP is convenient but to me the content quality have not been reliable as of late.

I know I have bandwidth to handle 4K content because Netflix plays perfectly.

Strange. It runs fine for me.

Have you tried casting it via an app if you have a Chromecast? How does it play on a computer browser?

When I am streaming in 4k HDR on Google Play Movies app, through Chromecast, or the GoogleTV app, I have no issues.

It usually streams at a high bitrate too, 20+mbps .

It may be that Netflix compresses a LOT more because I notice on my wifi (Google Home app) I never see it taking more than 12-15mbps for the heaviest DolbyVision 4k movies on Netflix.

I have some credit on Google Play. So if I buy The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K on Google Play. Since this is MA compatible will this upgrade my HD versions on Vudu, MA, & other digital providers?
