Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring 4K Extended version is on Google Play for 9,99 euros. It says 4K but it doesn't mention HDR. I just bought Sony X950G tv so I wonder if they have HDR if I use the TV app to watch it.

Edit: It says HDR now.

I rented Blade Runner: Final Cut in 4K and the picture was very pixelated. I don't think the issue is my internet connection because Fellowship of the Ring 4K has no problems.

What did you use to play it? For instance, Roku can't play some 4k Movies through Google Play. No idea why

I used the Google Movies app on my Sony XG95 4K tv. I bought Fellowship of the Ring and it has no problems. I'm pretty sure they are 4K but there is no way to check the resolution in the app.

I found that my TCL Roku can't play some movies in 4k if I use the Play Movies app, but if I stream it to my TV via Chromecast Ultra it Play Store 4k.

It's a rights issue that I think is studio/specific app on that TV type (or OS).

I just found that issue on a few movies the other day.

I'm gonna buy the new Chromecast with Google TV to run all smart TV stuff now, it's better and Apple is adding their app to it too

You can try running the movie in YouTube and enable "stats for nerds" but again, it isn't always the same as the Play Movies app

So is the chromecast the only plug in stick that outputs play movies in Hdr?

I am done with this GP unless the movie ports into iTunes/MA as 4K HDR.

I dunno

I use my Chromecast with Google TV as it integrates so nicely.

If a movie isn't in DV/HDR on any given service I just open the MA app if I need to

LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring doesn't have Dolby Vision anymore. It looks like they have removed it. I'm pretty sure it had it when I bought it.

Google Play ports just the same as anything. If you are purchasing an HD movie then that is your own fault.

Very strange, I just checked on Play Store on my phone and it says HDR and HDR10+, which was just certified for hardware. MA still says DolbyVision there.

I have a feeling there is some idiocy going on and it's the studio fault. I have found out that LionsGate can't upload movies correctly -- the studio says Google is responsible for a movie being 4k (like Knowing, nic cage 2009) but Google said Lionsgate is.

I found the developer documentation for the STUDIO to upload their OWN content

and Red Heat with Arnold is another that Lionsgate has messed up. just sent a huge complaint in to Google\YouTube over it

Update, I checked the movie JOKER which I know has DolbyVision on Google...

It shows HDR, HDR10+, and DV.

Maybe WB's LOTR got updated with a HDR10+ copy and DV did not go with it -- I know the studios are responsible for that stuff, not Google, b\c I have found all the backend documentation for the studio techs to upload their media.

Joker Play store bottom:

I emailed Google's support about the missing Dolby Vision in March and the issue still hasn't been resolved. They have send me emails almost weekly saying that they are still investigating and have asked me for more info few times. They did it again last week. I have a feeling that they can't do anything about it.

Is there any word yet on Batman V Superman UE getting a free upgrade to the new remaster in 4K for people in the UK very soon. The Google Movies app is selling it in 4K but it is sold as a separate digital copy through the app or maybe on the Google Play website. Thanks in advance.

Are only the 4k version of getting the BvS UE upgrade to the new version or all versions? I only own that movie in HD lol...

Anyways, so Youtube is supposed to play our GP movies after June 15? What about movies that refuse to play or show ownership?
I own the MA version of Coraline, I bought the Laika bundle https://play.google.com/store/movies...id=GN5P3SEnUs8 but it seems like the version that is on Youtube Coraline - YouTube
is the one linked to this Coraline version which is the non-MA version https://play.google.com/store/movies...=pG4h2G-JH2o.P therefore on Youtube it is asking me to buy it and refuses to play...smh

Yes I know I can watch it on Vudu/MA/FN/iTunes but since it happened to this movie, I wonder which other movies that suddenly has an additional non-MA version and Youtube only has the non-MA version instead of the MA version, only way to access them is thru the library similar to iTunes then

edit: ok Youtube does not show I own any of the other 3 movies either Kubo, Boxtrolls, or Paranorman, so Youtube must have the non-MA version of those 3 movies too

I believe all HD versions have been upgraded for BvS to the remastered...At least, for most retailers anyway.

As for Coraline and the others, sometimes retailers make titles hidden due to changing of movie rights. If you search for the title you own, you will only be taken to the version with the new rights (you don't own)

However, the titles you own should still be found and are playable in your movie library. Unfortunately, you have to manually scroll through your library to find them. When you find them, you could add the titles to your watch list so you don't have to search for them in the future.

But Coraline that I own doesn't show in a search but I did find it in my library. I copied the link once the movie started playing. I went into private browsing with the link and youtube shows Video Unavailable but it plays when I load the link while signed into my Google.

You can try this link for Coraline which should take you to the version you own:

Put https in front of the above

If not, you could just manually search your movie library in Youtube.

I'm demanding they finish changing their movies to 4K that they forget about. I've gotten a couple updated by emailing them so much but they are a PAIN.

[blockquote]Yes! Can you get your movies in 4K updated on Google Play Movies / YouTube?!

Lord of War, DREDD, Knowing, many, many others have been updated to 4K on @VuduFans, @iTunes, and @PrimeVideo!
but about half the time Google is ignored! This is on y'all, please fix so I can watch![/blockquote]
