I was talking with an employee there and I asked him if Blu sales have skyrocketed since the Warner decision.
He said they are completely sold out of blu ray players (except ps3s). At the other end of the spectrum, tons of people are trying to return HD-DVD players/movies and he doesnt think they have sold a single player since the announcement. The last thing he said was his manager is telling everyone that they wont even have any HD-DVD movies on their shelves by summer. ![]() |

That is sweet justice. The last time I was in Best Buy (December, to buy a new HD TV) one of the sales people was trying to sell me an HD DVD player even though I already have a Blu-ray player. We got into it big time. He was trying to tell me that Blu-ray was inferior and that early next year (2008) it would be gone. He was getting mad at me because I was able to argue every one of his points. But he pissed me off so much I decided not to buy my new TV from Best Buy. I think I should go back in now that Warner has gone Blu-ray exclusive and HD DVD is going down the tubes and see where he stands now.

Sounds like the predictions will be coming true at BB on the HD DVD front.
Will be interesting to watch the flow of this situation. |

I was in a Best Buy last week for a new blu player and of the 5 models they had only 2 were in stock. Right next to them were the HD-DVD players and they had tons in stock.

My local Walmart has only 2 hd dvd players for sale and both of them are on a clearance shelf with red price stickers on them.
Looks like there will be no more hd dvd players at this store after these 2 are sold. |

Yes, the retailers will end this first by eliminating sales of HD DVD players. It would be irresponsible of them to keep selling playes to the public knowing what we/they know now. Even if their sales numbers are extremely low.

If you would like to see something similar to what the OP posted, but in real-time, then check out eBay. Do a search on HD DVD and you'll see that an auction is ending every few minutes. I've watched A3's going for around $80 all the time now. Still, have to be sorry about the fact that some poor fools are actually buying these things, but at least it's not too bad of a price for an upconverter.

I just got back from Costco, they had a Blu-Ray demo running but were completely sold out of Blu-Ray players. Meanwhile they had a pallet load of HDDVD just sitting there being ignored.

Was in the Wal-Mart by my work today and they already sold off all HD-DVD players. They only had 3 HD-DVD's on the shelf. I looked to see if there was a spot for the players anymore and there was none. However they had a big new HDNA display with a Sony 300.

I was one of those whom returned a Toshiba HD-A3 player and movies to Best Buy after the Warner announcement.
Best Buy took back the open Toshiba player (with cut out barcode) and ALL of my movies including the opened Blade Runner and Matrix and gave me full store credit for everything. I purchased the Panasonic DMP-BD30K after doing some research about Final Spec etc...and found this to be the only model that was 1.1. Those whom don't do their homework I think will be upset when the find out almost all the players BB sells are pre final. Now I am just going to have to wait for Warner to release a BD of Matrix, which I understand is soon to follow suit. Now when I browse the isles at BB I am sure to warn the unsuspecting customers in the HD-DVD section that are unaware. Last edited by Viscott; 01-18-2008 at 12:36 AM. |
