Default ps3 having no impact on BD sales...Uh yeah right!!!

Quote:
Illustrating the impact of the ps3 on software sales, Rentrak Retail Essentials Senior vp Chris Roberts says that Blu-Ray movie sales catapulted 250% during the week ps3 was introduced on Nov. 17 Although the bump was credited to the same-week release of Fox's Blu-Ray Disc "X-men: The Last Stand", sales of Lionsgates five-month-old Blu-ray title "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" shot up 440%, one of 17 titles that enjoyed sales spikes of 100-400% the week that ps3 launched.
quoted from the "Blu-Ray-Today" magazine handed out at CES.
I have the magazine, it has some great info and stunning statistics that show BD has dominated and will continue to do so. I wish I had a scanner to get it on here. If someone has this and can post it up that would be awesome!

I just purchased my 10th BD tonight since getting my PS3's, so I know from first hand experience that it's helping a lot. I know other that have bought quite a few BD's also since they bought their PS3's. The only thing holding me back from buying more is that there isn't really anything else that interests me at this time.

Are you a gamer? And what will happen when a bunch of great PS/3 games start distracting you?

There are those hoping for a repeat of the PSP.

Although I'm sure BD movie attach rates on the PS/3 have already exceeded the attach rates of UMD movies on the PSP.

I just purchased my 31st Blu-Ray movie since I got my PS3.

So, obviously it's making an impact.

When UMDs came out they cost the same or in some cases more than their DVD counterparts, and they were an inferior copy compared to the DVD resolution-wise. You couldn't watch UMDs at home on a TV, you could only watch them on your PSP. BDs also cost more than DVDs.. however it is obviously a superior product. There is NO comparison between UMDs and BDs, anyone attempting to compare the two is grasping at straws.

I agree, the blu-ray version of a new film is only (UK price) about £4 more than the DVD, so it's a no brainer to go for the HD version if you have a PS3.

I don't know why people felt that the PS3 wouldn't help BD sales. People got a free BD player, of course they were going to try it out. Yeah only the diehards like us are going to buy everything on BD, but the average PS3 owner is going to pick up a few of their favorite movies on BD, see the quality and start to buy more and more discs.

I get customers everyday coming in asking questions about BDs and telling me they have a PS3. We walk over to the BD section and talk, I reassure them of the benefits of BD, they usually pick up a few BD movies say thanks and go home happy.

Because they're blindfolded HD DVD fanboys that's why.

Default BD taking over!!

My wife hates mistress Blu-ray and me right now. Seriously, When I opened my display case door and she had seen how many BD's I had purchased in less than a month she went ballistic!!

I have only had my PS3 for just over a month now and I currently own 4 PS3 games and 30 BD's

As per "PS3 not having an impact on BD Sales" , what a crock!!

I knew all along the PS3 would boost BD sales and that anyone who thought otherwise was either blind or just plain foolish. I don't own a PS3 (yet, maybe later this year ), but don't discount we that purchased the stand-alone players either. Don't forget, the non-Samsung stand-alones all launched right around the same time as the PS3. I bought my Panasonic in November and I already have 24 BD titles and about another 6 or so on pre-order, and I plan to purchase a lot more after seeing all of those titles announced CES.

This is all great news for HD DVD!

I bought a PS3 mainly to have a blu-ray player. I have 14 titles in 3 weeks time. I have only 1 game. I usually do not buy a lot of games (I rent or beat the game that I have before getting another). I do not buy as many regular DVD now for sure. I save my entertainment money for Blu-ray.

You gotta balance it out, ya know? For every 2 movies for you (exclusively), get 1 for her or for the both of you. Nope, BD porn doesn't count as "for her".

I figure their belief about pS3 having no impact on BD is based on the assumption that average PS3 gamer hates BD as much as average HD DVD zealot does, and refuses to play Blu-Ray discs in his player even if it can do so. That and perhaps another group of PS3 users who will never find out about blu-ray existance, even if it's written on PS3

And mmm if you replace any DVD you alreasy have, put the new BD disc inside the old the DVD case and put all those Blue cases and DVDs in the attic in a sealed discarded brown carboard box of DelMonte canned vegetables or something

Can't.... Love those beautiful blu cases. It would be a crime not to display them. Besides, my wife is way to smart for that

My wife is letting me replace the DVD as long as I sell it and recoupe some of the original DVD money. It is an investment in your future entertainment needs.
