You need a 3D-capable BD player, a 3D-capable TV/projector, and the type of 3D glasses suitable for your TV/projector. You can't just use 3D glasses from a theater, as those use an entirely different, passive technology (i.e. the glasses aren't doing anything but sitting on your face), whereas the 3D glasses for home viewing have an active technology (the lenses are actually doing some active syncing/filtering).

So I would assume most people will be buying the regular 2-D version because so few can play the 3D.

How will this be more special than the one I already own?
I'm curious too. I can tell you I did ask KL About the Straight Talk Special Edition which is from the same studio. KL said this quite a few posts ago:

Quote:
Not sure about the transfer, we've asked Disney to research all the Hollywood/Touchstone titles and let us know which ones are new and which ones are the same version previously released on BD.
KL Post

Hope this helps....maybe KL will announce if it's a new transfer.

You'd be surprised. Vintage 3D has surprisingly large and devoted audience. Most of Twilight Time's 3D offerings have sold out at a noticeably faster rare than similar non-3D titles, for example.

The 3D Blu-ray will default to 2D if your TV is only 2D and not 3D.

If you have a friend with a 3D TV or 3D projector, the same disc will play the movie in 3D.

Glasses do not make a movie in 3D:
If it is projected in 3D, the glasses separate the right eye image and the left eye image for the appropriate eye and allow you to see 3D (otherwise you will just see 2 images on the screen). You must have a 3D TV or a 3D front projector setup to get 3D.

But, yes, the same Blu-ray disc of The Maze will play both 2D and 3D.

Although I don't have a 3-D setup, I'll still buy the Blu-ray of THE MAZE, since it will look better than the DVD version.

Love Keaton and would really like to see his MGM films out on blu, even the shoddy ones like Parlor Bedroom & Bath. I read somewhere that Criterion may actually have The Cameraman and Spite Marriage now but nothing confirmed.

That is with Warner I think. So it would almost surely be Criterion or WB and I just can't see WB releasing on Blu so hopefully, Criterion can release it(it's my favorite silent). I think the only 20s WB release is The Jazz Singer?
Always so many BluRays. Never enough money.

Movies that need a US BluRay release: Roman Holiday, The Lost Weekend, Ruggles of Red Gap, A Night at the Opera,The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, The Naked City, Brute Force

Big Business is already a stand alone bluray. I have it.

Check it out here for only $9.89

This does remind me that I still need to pick up The Devilís Disciple. It has been in and out of my cart a couple of times.
Current pre-orders: none

It will play in a regular Blu-ray player, all of the Kino's 3-D releases include the 2-D version. But if you want to watch it in 3-D, you'll need a 3-D player, 3-D television and glasses.

From KL Insider

Big Business (1988) with optional English subtitles
• Audio Commentary by Director Jim Abrahams
• 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Audio
• Original Theatrical Trailer

I think they're calling it "special edition" to differentiate from the old Mill Creek version, which had no extras, not even a trailer, 5.1 or subtitles. KL Insider said they're researching all of these Touchstone/Hollywood titles and will let everyone know about the transfers as soon as they have that info.

KL Insider,

Is Kino able to release Cabin Boy (1994) on blu-ray? It was a Touchstone/Buena Vista Pictures production. It was one of my favorite VHS rentals back in the '90s.

Might have to double dip on Mafia!. The commentary tracks for spoof movies are often pretty entertaining.

Other 'upgrades' to former MC releases that would be awesome:

- Band of the Hand w/ MPEG-4 video, lossless audio, and commentary track.

- Ernest films w/ MPEG-4 video, lossless audio, and commentary track.

- Hudson Hawk w/ correct audio track and commentary track (apparently it was eventually corrected by MC though I still have the older disc).

- Last Action Hero w/ commentary track.

- Money for Nothing w/ corrected aspect ratio and commentary track.

- My Science Project w/ correct audio and commentary track.
