Vizios in particular though seem to have more of a reputation of failure though. The guy at Best Buy even warned me when I first bought it, saying of all the brands they carried, Vizios failed the most.

Vizios when they first came out did have a high failure rate and quality control issues. They actually have become very reliable. I've purchased probably 10 Vizios for me or family members and only 1 has ever failed (after 15 years).
I've also had luck with Westinghouse and TCL. Good value vs price for computer monitors or secondary TVs. Granted as far as image qaulity goes they do not compare to Samsung, Sony, Toshiba or LG but are a decent bargained price TV.
I also wouldn't trust the BB guy. They want to sell you the more expensive TV as they make more money. I've many times have gone into the TV or computer section when the BB guy asks me if I need help and I ask a question I already know the answer to where they don't know the answer or make something up. That's when I say thank you and continue to shop on my own.

My 2018 Vizio failed. Going through Vizio to get it replaced was an absolute pain in the ass. After 3 months, the replacement was at my house. Opened it. The display was shattered. Sent it back. Another 6 weeks went by. A replacement for the replacement. Hooked it up. A week later, it was flickering and randomly shutting itself off. I will never buy another Vizio television. I will stick with Sony and LG from now on.

I've been hearing great things about the banding, and the near black noise issues being almost non-existent on the C9.

Can anyone compare/testify to how the C8 was with these issues vs the B6?

I watch a lot of dark content (horror movies, new and old), so the near black noise especially has been one of my main gripes with by B6. The prospect of it being almost entirely gone with a C9 is tempting, but, with a move and other expenses coming up, the (current) $1000 price difference between the 8 and 9 is hard to ignore.

If the C8 is ALMOST as good as the C9 in these areas, then I'll probably just go with that. If it's closer to the B6 with those problems...I guess I'll hold off a bit longer.

EDIT/Additionally: I've always heard great things about NewEgg for computer components and cables etc, but nothing really regarding TV sales. They seem to have some great flash sales (65 C9 for 2500) BUT...many of those flash sales appear to be 3rd party vendors THROUGH NewEgg. Should I avoid these? The give off the same sort of vibe as "Grey Market" sellers you can find where MAYBE 3 months later you get your low priced TV.

I was talking about SDR

HDR gamma is different

And just because it is locked to 2.2 doesn't mean it is 2.2

Has anyone else had audio sync issues with their LG OLED? I have a B8, and I'm watching with an Xbox One X/Pioneer VSX-531 (via HDMI passthrough).receiver. Aside from the obvious "audio delay" function, are there any other settings that could be causing a delay between audio/video?

Still trying to find a comparison,

The the B6 vs the C8 regarding banding and near-black "noise".

And then the C8 vs the C9 in those same areas.

Moving soon, and planning to upgrade when I do. Tempted to just go for the C9, as I hear great things about the near-black and banding (and I watch a lot of horror), but the price difference between the 9 and the 8 is hard to ignore. Is the C8 better than the B6? Is it at least close-ish to the C9?

Yeah, I have it on my C8. I'm constantly messing with the internal audio delay, as it seems like different sources seem to have widely varying delays.

That said, at least there is actually an internal adjustment you can make on the TV that doesn't require a receiver. My last TV (Sony X800D) had extremely noticeable delay with every external input, and there was no adjustment you could make via the TV itself.

In general, how well does the B8 upscale Blu-rays? Do I need to buy a Blu-ray player that boasts "4K upscaling" or will the display do a better job of scaling 1080p content to its native resolution? I have a Panasonic UB820 for my Region A library, but only a cheap barebones player for my Region B discs so I'm unsure if I need to get a better player for watching Region B content on my new OLED.

The B8 doesn't upscale as well as my Oppo 203. But we're into premium player territory there. The Panasonic 4K players are supposed to have excellent upscaling as well. I used to think upscaling was largely snake oil, but there is something in it. It can't invent detail but there are lots of little tweaks that can help, especially in the chroma upsampling where I find the cheaper players fail at.

Just ordered my first OLED (not to mention 4K display). Upgrading from 2013 plasma.

How worried should I be about burn-in on the LG E8?

Coming from a 2013 PDP you should be ok. Get past the 200 break-in to stabilize the OLED panel to help reduce the threat of burn-in and enjoy mixed content.

I'm still rocking the B6 for a bit longer (hoping we start seeing more sales below 3 grand on the 65C9). I haven't even noticed on mine, but on the later models is there even a way to turn off the TV's upscaling on certain inputs? Or does the Panny's just over-ride those anyway?

don't do any Firmware updates. It should have the.15 installed. The .55 and the previous .35 have issues. We are awaiting a proper update to fix the glitches created by the new firmware update. I reverted back to the.15 as did many others.

Just keep hitting NO to any FW update for now.

The TV won't be doing any scaling if the input is 4K and "Just Scan" is turned on.
